Game two is money in the bank for the Sox. Pedro asked, "Who is Johhhhhhhhn Lieber? He needs to be forcing himself to come up to where I am, to my level." Wednesday tv is packed. MLB, Lost, debate and a college football game. Apparently football is now played everyday of the week.
Ouch. ESPN just said that Schilling has a torn ankle tendon and probably won't pitch the rest of the series.
Lieber pitched the game of his life tonight, but there is nothing you can do but tip your hat to him. If the Yankees get SP performances like that from guys like him, Brown, and Vasquez, then they will win the World Series handily.
Second verse, same as the first. The future doesn't look any brighter for the Sox with Arroyo going against Kevin Brown and DBC's favorite player against El Duque.
So Duque is going to pitch with a dead arm? Are you sure about that, Hydra? Red Sox are a different team at Fenway and are undefeated against the Yankees with Arroyo pitching. It is not a desirable situation, but your statement reeks of hyperbole (like a typical Yankee fan, though).
Maybe Vasquez pitches, but I am pulling for my main man, and one of the best postseason starters I have ever seen, since Vasquez has been pitching like 2004 Esteban Loiza. In Arroyos 4 starts against the Yankees, he got zero wins. In all 4 of the games, the Sox scored the winning runs in the final inning in which they batted. He left with a lead in only 1 game. He never pitched 7 innings. Unless you think Arroyo is some kind of good luck charm, I wouldn't put too much stock into the Sox winning the 4 games he started against the Yankees. I would disagree that saying an Arroyo/Brown matchup looks worse for the Red Sox than a Martinez/Lieber matchup is hyperbolic, most people would view it as a statement of fact. Edit: Forgot to address Fenway. Matsui has a 1.363 OPS at Fenway this season. Posada and Sierra are both over 1.000. Since Brown is a ground ball pitcher, I wouldn't expect park effects to come into play much anyway.
dammit i'm pissed off. see this is why they needed game one. next two games are must win. stupidmoniker, you know what even though you're a yankee's fan you're still right, as usual. and i respect that. mastui for some reason is a red sox killer. edit: except about the brown thing, i didn't see that. what the hell are you talking about brown has stunk lately, i don't think he's gonna put it together just for this game. sure he was 7-1 to start the season, but look at the numbers on his last ten starts.
LMAO - winning 2 games has made you forget the fact that Brownie couldn't even get out of the 1st inning the last time he pitched at Fenway. I would argue that Arroyo was the Red Sox most consistent starter for the last 2 months, even moreso than Schilling and definitely Pedro. I mean the Red Sox have played well to win 2 games but have had the bad luck of seeing their best starter not be at 100% (game 1) and see a guy pitch the game of his life against them (game 2). Obviously, I would have preferred the Red Sox to not be in this situation, but they have always had to do things the hard way. But I cannot believe you are dismissing them like you are - remember that Boston won the regular season series 11-8 and were 7-3 at Fenway Park. You act like that the Yankees are going to come into Fenway and win the next 2 games 12-0. I am pretty sure that is not going to happen. Win Game 3 and then I will take a little more stock into your wild statements. It would be very nice if Captain Caveman Damon would show up for this series.
i have to say...i'm pretty pessimistic about the sox chances in this thing. i was in about the 5th inning of game 1. losing schilling...wasting a schilling start...you just can't afford to do that against a team like the yanks.
Fortunately, they don't play tonight. Max - I agree. If there ever was a year to see the Sox finally beat the Yankees, this was it. After all, we had the 2 headed monster in Schilling and Pedro, but yet neither could win thanks to injury and an incredible pitching performance by Lieber. It has just been bad luck, as always. Why oh why do I get the feeling that when I watch these Red Sox-Yankees games it is like watching the Washington Generals against the Harlem Globetrotters? Except those games are staged unlike my Sox games.
The Yankees are the devil. Damon needs to step and be the table setter that he's been all season. 5 Ks in 8 AB is not good.
Mixed with a little Curse of the Bambino. It's a beautiful day in Yankee Nation. 'Pimp is starting to hear the sound of someone sweeping.
