LMAO - you are unreal, you know that? Gee, I could play this game as well by saying if Schilling wasn't 100% for Game 1, if Jon Lieber hadn't pitched out of his mind for Game 2, if Bronson Arroyo hadn't sucked for Game 3, etc.. Face it, Hydra, I know you can't stand to admit this, but seriously put down the crack pipe and the bravado, and admit that the Red Sox are an evenly matched opponent for your Yankees. Torre, himself, said that they (the Red Sox of last season) were the greatest opponent that his Yankee teams ever went up against. I mean you act like Boston is a team that won 60 games this season. For God's sake, man, give them a little bit of credit. The stuff you described, that is baseball. That is why you play the game and never take anything for granted.
this is an incredible series, no doubt about it. the yankees have shown that they have a pitching staff capable of winning ballgames, now if Mo would stop blowing saves they would be alright. and the Red Sox have shown more heart in these last two extra inning games than than they have all postseason. the odds are against them, yankee stadium awaits...
I predict a black sheep will stroll in front of Manny Ramirez, nibble on the grass, and fall alseep in the outfield for no apparent reason. Curse on.
No doubt that a healthy Schilling would make this a completely different series. Bronson Arroyo is not scaring anybody, so I don't think his game 3 start was unexpected. Mariano Rivera had come into this years playoffs with 2 blown saves in 8 years, I think getting 2 in 2 days is more shocking than Arroyo getting shelled. The Boston Red Sox are a good team, there is no doubt about that. The Twins were a good team too. I think that this Red Sox team is no better than last years version, especially sans a healthy Curt Schilling, while the Yankees are a better team than last year. That is why I expect the Yankees to win, and why I predicted a possible sweep, which very nearly happened. Anyway, what kind of Yankees fan would I be if I didn't talk down to fans of their lowly competitors with bluster and bravado?
Well Arroyo did finish with 12 wins, I believe, and an era of 4.03. Plus the Red Sox had won all of his starts against the Yankees up til Game 3. Granted, he didn't have it in Game 3, but he looked pretty good in striking out A-Hole and Steroid Boy last night. And yes I have no problem saying that Fruit Bat Rivera (what is it with the Yankees and having players with big ears or ears that are disproportionate to their bodies? Rivera, Posada, and now Cairo, geez) is the greatest closer ever. But the fact remains that he has struggled against the Red Sox more than anyone else, blowing like 9 saves. Looking at trends, you had to figure that Boston could get to him again. Blowing 2 in a row is pretty phenomenal, but in his defense ex-Sox closer Flash Gordon did put him in a very bad spot. But with all that being said, it will still take a miracle for the Red Sox to win this series. Schilling has to pitch the game of his life, Lieber has to look like, well Jon Lieber, instead of Walter Johnson, Automatic Out Damon has to do something positive for the Sox, etc and this is just to WIN Game 6!! The chances of Boston winning 2 in a row at the Bronx Zoo is slim to none.
Like I said before yesterday's game! END IT NOW!!!! I don't want no stinkin' game seven! Weird things happen in game sevens!
Hey mcmark, Let's have some good-natured fun... I want to hear your nicknames for the Red Sox players. Here is a question that is going to sound dumb, but what started this fad of singing "God Bless America" in the 7th inning stretch? I noticed that they did this in the NLCS. Is this something that is only done in the playoffs or is it during the regular season? Was this started because of 9/11 or something else? Why does the Irish Tenor have big ears like Posada, Cairo, and Rivera? Why was that girl that sang it in Game 5 so awful? Why do I wonder about such trivial things?
Manny, yeah it started right after 9/11. Another trivial question regarding God Bless America, does that Irish tenor always sing it at Yankee Stadium, or does it just sound like it?
Yeah it was started after the 9/11 incident. They started singing it at all the baseball games in the 7th inning stretch.
he sings it every game i believe except that one game. Every time i have seen a yankees game i have seen him singing it.
Almost Forgot - GO SOX.... but if yankees win i don't mind either cause then i get to see my Stros take them out =)
Wow, just did a Ronan Tynan google search, and I guess he does sing at all the Yankees games, at least in the playoffs. But check this out, got to give props to the guy: http://www.roycecarlton.com/speakers/tynan.html
classic effort by Schilling i don't particulary care for him, but you have to respect what he just did
Wonder how much he gets paid for each gig. Not only can he sing he can save a life if anyone has a heart attack or something.
I don't why you people are assuming this will go seven. These are still the Red Sox playing at Yankee Stadium. Three runs is nothing.
