Maldy is a competent hitter against lefties. It’s only 100 plate appearances this year, but he’s slashing .239/.316/.500.
Dubon hits .324 against LHP this season, and .294 in limited ABs over the past month I love Brantley, and I hope he gets an important PH AB against a tough RHRP tonight (I also really hope it's not needed), but this is not some indefensible insane lineup choice, especially if you're been paying a slight modicum of attention to how the lineups have been used in the past few weeks.
I saw that on other social media and it annoys me as John Travolta is more associated with NYC than he is Houston. You could do Sheldon Cooper is more authentically Houston because Jim Parsons grew up in Houston.
NBA terms offensively it might be the third guy off the bench. Defensively though shortstop would be very important and among the starting 5 on an NBA team.
All this. I’d rather meyers have been the starting CF against all LHP because he actually is a plus defender in CF and similarly hits LHP well, but Dubon is fine, and the obvious choice after how much rust Meyers has collected in the last couple months of the season (why he was left off the ALCS roster I’m sure. Brantley is absolutely at the stage in his career where he should be a platoon player. He’s going on 5 solid years without much pop against LHP, he’s a defensive liability and he’s also likely the best possible late inning PH you could have as a professional hitter that isn’t going to be bothered by going in cold and still can hit a line drive late in the game in a pressure situation. This is a no brainer and Dusty got this one right. Hell- I don’t even have a problem with Maldy starting against LHP especially with a guy he has a rapport with like JV. In a sane world with playing time allotted rationally throughout the year it would make sense for Maldy to start games 1 and 5 catching JV against a LHP starter and pull him when their starter gets pulled.
A starter who is more valuable for his defense, is among the last to touch the ball on any given offensive play.
Enough with the stupid cowboy memes. This is Space City! Also for season 4 of one of my favorite shows.
