close but not quite Slaton: F fumbles are killing us Offensive line: C- alot of, maybe most of the running problems are on them avoid the D because they are only 3/5ths complete Coaching : C- you can not run, stop trying, we get the lead and run the ball into a punt or Slaton fumble every time
After a win, you can hear the crickets in here. If Texans lost, this would have been 50 pages by now.
TEXANS WIN! - Boy was today's game scary. We were rolling in the first half, offense and defense. Owen was the X-factor as he tore up their linebackers and secondary. -The second half was a straight flip flop of our previous games. Our defense couldn't keep them out of the endzone and couldn't hammer them down on 3rd and whatevers. I saw alot of soft coverages that Smith was picking apart and for godsakes, FIND VERNON DAVIS and key in on him on defense! -Mario with a sack! Constant pressure on the QB's which is a positive sign -Slaton is really starting to worry me with his fumbling to the point where I feel as nervous everytime he has the ball as I do when I see Dropcoby about to field a punt (very bad news). I hope the coaching staff suggests him wearing "grip" sleeves on his arms -Our critical "Third and Must Get it Play"..I've seen them run this formation several times. Walter comes in motion into the backfield, and runs out wide. The first time they ran this (Titans game) they pitched it to Walter and he got the first. The last couple of times they fake the pitch and go the other way for a short drop off, today it got batted down. I'm hoping theyve shown enough looks on this play that they now go back to pitching it to Walter next time they run it. Had they pitched to him today, they had that side sealed off sans one lineman who looked like he was getting penetration but would be a nonfactor as the run would bounce to the outside. -Schaub has ANOTHER good game, not amazing but good. We won again so guess what....NO D(ebbie) D(owner) to rain on the parade
How do you figure we got constant pressure on the QBs? It felt like we couldn't get any pressure at all in the 2nd half. Maybe that was partly due to a change in our defense but there was almost no pressure to speak of for Smith. And Mario's sack was a completely blown defensive assignment. He just walked in on Hill.
I was dissapointed with the way we played in the 2nd half, but a win is a win. Hopefully AJ is ok. That's my main concern right now. Shaub looked sharp and proved once again that he is a quality QB when healthy.
Yes there were several times we couldnt get pressure, but there were multiple times where we collapsed the pocket, Smith and Barwin I believe almost had a sack. The final drive the pressure was there, Smith got flushed on one play, Mario almost had that safety, and the pressure caused the ill advised throw at the end that sealed the deal
talk radio is that way too. no question about it. so happy they won. honestly, at this point i'm just content with wins. i'll worry about what they mean and how they happened after the season is over when it's time for McNair to evaluate everything. i'm not thrilled with the inconsistency, though.
I see. Maybe that's all it was. I figured it was partly due to the defense but there were times when it seemed like we couldn't get pressure when we needed to, especially when it became obvious that our secondary was getting burned, regardless.
I'm with you. The Texans are not so loaded with talent, or accomplishment that we should quibble with wins. First, it's the NFL. Even great teams have ugly wins all of the time. The Texans are by no means a great team, but they have enough going for them to contend and there is room for growth. I think a more experienced defensive coordinator would have adjusted to the 49'ers schemes, but the defense has pitched shutouts for entire halves at least four times this year. That's impressive. Their offense is top tier, despite all of the troubles with the running game. I think a lot of the inconsistency has to do with being one of the younger teams in the league.
Exactly what I said above. Guys, count with one hand how many times the Texans have been in position to blow out or put away a quality team? (ie - not the Oaklands, Jackonsivlles, or Browns of the world) The more they play this quality of football, the better they'll get at putting teams away. They're not there yet... wins are still at a premium. Clearly they've learned something from the Jets game (adjust to the 3-4 defense), they've learned something from the Jacksonville game (have to get better secondary), they've learned something from the Arizona game (can't rely on the running game for short-yardage), and they'll learn something from this game. This was the first time we've won two in a rown this year... and we haven't lost two in a row. Basically, I feel this team is getting better... despite the inconsistency.
A win is a win is a win. Don't worry. Your little team might get one at some point this season. I'm disappointed that they just can't put 2 of the same halves together. They looked so dominating in the 1st half, only to look like the Texans of old in the 2nd. I think it had a lot to do with a lack of preparation for the 49er's going spread. They haven't done it all season so obviously the d didn't know what to expect. Slaton should have been benched after the lost fumble. I'm not saying make it permanent, but send a message. Quit fumbling or ride the pine.
