Only the Browns, niners, Bears, Jets and maybe Jags would do it in the first round. A team that already has a QB will either wait til 2nd or wait til next year when there is a better crop. And even then, I don't think any of these QBs are worth a top 5 pick. Only one I'm worried about is Browns at 12 and I don't think ANY of the good QBs make it passed the 1-5 pick in the 2nd round which is why we need one in the first if they are there and we like them.
They still have Flacco for at least 2 more years, I'm not sure they pick a QB in a weak QB class to be potentially the guy 3 years from now.
I would be shocked if we didn't trade up. BoB really wants Mahomes. Guess we will get to see whose really running the show. I think McNair is going to let BoB have more say in the draft this year.
I'm not so sure the Ravens don't pick a QB this year. I highly doubt they pick a QB in the 1st, but a QB in the 2nd or 3rd(Kaaya or Webb for instance) IMO would be a smart move to attempt to light a fire under Flacco The sense I'm getting is BoB wants Mahomes, Smith and McNair want Watson. I'd be content with both, but wouldn't trade up for any QB(or any player) in the 1st. IMO this seems like generally a weaker draft(especially on the Offensive side of the ball)
What if this happens.Hack Canfora has them trading up to 11 for Mahomes. TRADE: 11. Houston Texans (from New Orleans) Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech. Houston can't afford to just sit back and hope a quarterback gets to them with the 25th pick. They don't have that luxury after the abomination that was The Brock Lobster experiment. And they need to jump the Cards to get their pick of the remaining passers. I'm playing a hunch and going Mahomes here, but it could easily be Watson.
Fun Fact: The Texans, while killing it with their first round picks, have *not* picked a QB in the first round in the past 9 years. Coincidence?
LZ just mentioned on 790; he's hearing QB unlikely at 25 and that the Texans like Peterman. He also said Smith is unquestionably running this draft. Also:
LZ is just saying that to have an easy out, like when he had filo rated as the best guard and at that time the exact quote"This draft has Obrian's fingerprints all over it." If smith is unquestionably running this draft, then b.o.b's resignation papers have been submitted. His tea pot ego would not stand for that. it's never been that way. Patriots also have taken a liking to Peterman. Coincidence?
Of course they like Peterman. He's about the most vanilla prospect in the entire draft. He's basically the same player as Savage.
Lance Z said bob has no say in this draft. Team pretty much is confident he's done after this year. Not drafting system players for him.
I can't believe what anyone says about the team until it happens. Nothing is ever really confirmed or denied.
