GOP Rep Upset That Budget Deal Was 'Designed To Pass With Bipartisan Support'

The budget deal that emerged this week was crafted to win support of Democrats and Republicans alike, and that's simply a bridge too far for one tea party congressman.

“This bill is not designed to get our vote,” Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) said Wednesday at a meeting hosted by the Heritage Foundation. “This bill is designed to pass with bipartisan support in the House.”

I actually like Ryan even though we might disagree on many issues. I think his drive to steer this country in a more fiscally responsible manner is genuine.

Not sure if serious - he doesn't have a drive to steer the country in a more fiscally responsible manner. In fact it's the opposite.

Sen. Johnson: Ryan-Murray Deal Is Really Murray's Budget

The budget framework introduced by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-WA) is really more Murray's preferred budget plan, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said Thursday.

"I understand what Paul was trying to do. I don't want to shut down the government. It's not the plan he would enact. This is more of a Patty Murray budget," Johnson said in an interview on MSNBC.

If Ryan is going to "drive to (a) steer," I hope he realizes the sex of said animal. Whatever bovine floats his boat!

    Good for Boehner.

John Boehner: Conservative Groups Have Lost All Credibility

WASHINGTON -- House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) assailed conservative groups Thursday for opposing the latest budget deal, saying they had crossed a line and lost their credibility.

"This budget agreement takes giant steps in the right direction," Boehner said. "But when groups come out and criticize something they've never seen, you begin to wonder just how credible those actions are."

Boehner has been reticent in the past to criticize conservative outside groups, such as Heritage Action and Club for Growth. Some of the groups have had a considerable influence on the tea party faction among House Republicans, and were the rallying force behind the effort to either defund Obamacare or shut down the federal government.

For the first time, Boehner acknowledged that these groups pushed Republicans into an unsuccessful strategy that he didn't favor. He expressed particular outrage that one of the groups later said it knew the shutdown strategy wasn't going to work.

"Are you kidding me?" Boehner shouted.

"Frankly I think they're misleading their followers. I think they're pushing our members in places they don't want to be," he added. "And frankly I just think they've lost all credibility."

Boehner showed his first signs of true frustration Wednesday, when he slammed the groups for coming out against the budget deal before they had seen it and accused them of "using" his members. Heritage Action and Americans for Prosperity stated their opposition to the Murray-Ryan budget deal before it was even announced, while Club for Growth urged members to vote against it moments after the deal was made public.

I am serious. Compare him to the true lunatics within the GOP like Ted Cruz and Ryan ain't. Half bad. Cruz would burn his own house to try to make a minor point.

Alright Boehner! Telling the tea party to suck it!

Budget passes on a strong bipartisan 332 to 94 vote.

Hope this is an indication of the coming immigration debate!

Budget clears procedural hurdle in the Senate

A bipartisan deal to roll back sharp spending cuts known as the sequester easily cleared a procedural hurdle in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, ensuring that the agreement will be passed and sent to President Obama in the coming days.

Senators voted 67 to 33 to end debate and proceed to final passage on the budget agreement. A final vote could come as soon as Tuesday evening if Senate Republicans agree to speed things up. Otherwise, the chamber is likely to send the measure to the White House late Wednesday.

Passage of the budget measure was secured Monday when Sens. Orrin G. Hatch (Utah) and Johnny Isakson (Ga.) joined fellow Republican Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Susan Collins (Maine) and Ronald H. Johnson (Wis.) in announcing they would help the Senate’s 55 Democrats assemble the 60 votes needed to clear a critical procedural vote and end debate on the budget measure.

The budget agreement, brokered by Senate Budget Committee Chairman Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), is intended to end nearly three years of acrimony over the budget in Washington. It would cancel half the sequester cuts for the current fiscal year, replace them with other savings and allow Congress to avert another government shutdown in January.

No credit for the Democrat working with Ryan? Color me unsurprised by your biased partisanship. Also note that 55 Democrats voted for cloture on this bill in the Senate with only 5 Republicans.

You did read the article, right? It specifically said that the bill wouldn't be ready for Obama's signature (you know, his part of this process) until Wednesday at the earliest. Again, your biased partisanship and knee jerk, undeserved blaming of Obama is noted.

Sure, but the relative insanity of others doesn't make render his own plans any more "serious".

You can't say you "seriously" care about fiscal responsibility and then propose massive rounds of tax cuts, alogn with all the other fakery and tricks he/Heritage used/uses.

This of course all presupposes that fiscal responsibilty matters - it really doesn't at present.
