Their chances are being hurt right now, yet he is plowing along.

Boehner only cares about retaining his speakership - not the party or god forbid, the country.

    Why won't the President negotiate?
    Let's see...
Oct 2008: "You'll never get elected and pass healthcare."
Nov 2008: "We'll never let you pass healthcare."
Jan 2009: "We're gonna shout you down every time you try to pass healthcare."
July 2009: "We'll fight to death every attempt you make to pass healthcare."
Dec 2009: "We will destroy you if you even consider passing healthcare."
March 2010: "We can't believe you just passed healthcare."
April 2010: "We are going to overturn healthcare."
Sept 2010: "We are going to repeal healthcare."
Jan 2011: "We are going to destroy healthcare."
Feb 2012: "We're gonna elect a candidate who'll revoke healthcare NOW."
June 2012: "We'll go to the Supreme Court, and they will overturn healthcare."
    Aug 2012: "American people'll never re-elect you-they don't want healthcare."
Oct 2012: "We can't wait to win the election and explode healthcare."
Nov 2012: "We can't believe you got re-elected & we can't repeal healthcare."
Feb 2013: "We're still going to vote to obliterate healthcare."
June 2013: "We can't believe the Supreme Court just upheld healthcare."
July 2013: "We're going to vote like 35 more times to erase healthcare."
Sept 2013: "We are going to leverage a government shutdown into defunding, destroying, obliterating, overturning, repealing, dismantling, erasing and ripping apart healthcare."
Oct 2013: "WHY AREN'T YOU NEGOTIATING???

    AWESOME!

Maybe we should start selling parks to keep the government open. What's Yellowstone going to fetch on the market? I'm sure China would be interested. It's not like they could move it or anything.

    Obama's starting to cave!

    http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/08/politics/shutdown-showdown/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

End the government shutdown and raise the debt ceiling -- even for a short period -- and I'll negotiate, President Barack Obama said Tuesday in providing a potential opening to end a political stalemate that has partially shut down the government and threatens a first-ever U.S. default next week.

And bigtexxx pees his pants (just a little).

You should have posted the whole quote

"If there's a way to solve this, it has to include reopening the government and saying America's not going to default and we're going to pay our bills,"

Don't really see how that's caving but oh well

Reading the comments section of any government related news post has got me thinking a lot of people have really gone batshait insane. I know social media has given an unfiltered voice to people who think it's end times, America should never have a black President, we had free markets until Obama, social darwinism is supported by Christianity etc. that they have never had before. There was always an editorial layer between them and the public.

Freedom is chaos, so burn this F^^cker down , I guess. Off we go into the brave new world.

So if he doesn't compromise with the House, he's a weak leader. If he does compromise with the House, he's a weak leader.

Would you consider our runaway debt, never ending deficits, and disgraceful labor force participation rates insane? I would. What about America's reduced standing in the world? Russia talking us down from wars, China and Japan lecturing us on fixing our debt ceiling issue?

    Obama's been that bad.

Where's the inconsistency there? The GOP has consistently called him "weak" no matter what he does or does not do, except when he is somehow like unto an emperor... or something.

Last Thursday, there was a House hearing on this bill...

Based on a 1990's study, it would amount to 3.3 million acres. The justification is that it would reduce the debt. The reality is that it would be a giveaway to special interests.

Wait isn't Obama a dictator who forced things down Congress' throat?

I am also enjoying how the guy who claimed to oppose bombing Syria is criticizing Obama for not.

The US's proclivity towards deficits started with Reagan. I personally believe deficits in the US government are not that dangerous and standard operating procedure for democratically elected leaders from any persuasion. They're not really dangerous because they shouldn't be measured against the countries current tax income but more against GDP and inflation. If we were really going bankrupt it would be to the value of all incomes, real estate, stocks and bond holdings etc. because where the people make the laws, the people could appropriate cash if they really were starving. The serfs can always storm the castle; that's why the 1% are working this level event so hard.

What reduced standing? Only super-power, fiat money of the planet, and what does that really mean anyway? 2/3 of the people in this world live on dirt floors, the military is undefeatable where real national security might be threatened, we are philosophically sympatico with Europe, Australia, Japan and Canada and not to far off with India. But people who's livelihood depends on us certainly have a right to offer critique. It's like international Free Speech.
