this is all true, but also i have to give credit to gabby for displaying an enthusiastic attitude and smiling way more than any of her competitors. whether contrived or just her personality, it definitely plays into the crowd as well as the media and ultimately judges. the arena in london was filled with USA backers, and they were definitely much louder for gabby than for aly or jordyn

It was moreso the rationalization that got my blood boiling, not the actual disagreement over her looks.

Arguing why someone is not/less attractive is just plain distasteful; doesn't matter who the person of interest is. It becomes extremely distasteful when said person is not a public figure because of her looks, e.g. Olympians. There's been several instances of this during these Olympics and it's becoming ridiculous.

It's probably a true statement that many of the Olympians wouldn't be picked out of a crowd of fashion models. It's the Olympics; without any selective preference the group is going to basically reflect normal distributions of attractiveness (albeit with exceptional fitness).

You completely missed the point again lol.

I was talking about her hype and popularity (comparing her success at London 2012 vs. Aly Raisman). pippendagimp went on to say even Douglas' all-around individual gold was suspect.

I have no idea where you got the Olympic judging coming down to most interesting story angle.. LOL

I have not missed the point either time just saying maybe some redundant information is being brought up if you're simply talking hype/popularity.

BTW, is it me or do the Chinese athletes get rooted against more than others at these games?

Not sure, but I know who I'll be rooting against... Dayron Robles (110 hurdles). I didn't think that he intentionally held Liu Xiang at the World Championships, but his "oh, I was disqualified just because I was Cuban" sob story rubbed me the wrong way.

I know absolutely nothing about gymnastics. That being said, the winner in my book was the chick who used pink floyd for her routine music.

It's so hard to predict the limit in 200m, but it could happen.

me too...blake and bolt are only sprinting just over half the distance.....they're going to obliterate the WR if they sprint all the way through. I just hope they're not so far ahead, yet separate from each other, where they both pull up ahead of time.

    110m hurdles Final now!

I say Merritt with WR, followed by Robles and Richardson.
