Mr Bean + a senile Muhammad Ali + a lifeless old bag of a queen do not equal a good opening

some redemption with Paul McCartney but still, not impressed

    The fireworks were nice.
Don't be so harsh on the Brits. No matter what London 2012 ceremonies were always going to be overshadowed by Beijing 2008.

I don't know about you guys, but compared to Barcalona or even Beijing, the London Cauldron is the worst Olympic Cauldron lighting since the Seoul '88 Games.

Just a hugh letdown all around tonight. I was really looking forward to a good show & I too love my classic rock but of all the music the British Invasion has given the World, "Hey Jude" is what they go with to end the opening ceremony?!? It didn't fit the moment at all ...just seemed thrown in at last minute.

Hopefully they make up for it with closing ceremonies.

All I gotta say is ....Rio 2016, atleast we can look forward to a carnival of butnaked women dancing at the opening ceremony!

It had nothing to do with Beijing, this entire ceremony was hilariously bad. We were just laughing at how stupid it was the entire time

Mr. Bean was the only semi entertaining part of the night.

Didn't expect this to top the Beijing one. It was still pretty good. I couldn't sit through and watch all 4 hours of it, but there were entertaining and cool moments in this opening ceremony.

Not a fan at all of what the US was wearing. Ditch the berets (why has this become a staple of their unis now) and come up with something a little more modern maybe?

Ceremony was ho hum...no one will ever top Bejing...Vancouver I thought was pretty good though. Just seemed like there was too many little things happening to get a true feel for anything.

not only did that opening ceremony just plain suck, it was rather bizzarre.......smokestacks pillowing out clouds of pollutant? precisely while greenland's ice shelf is disappearing, america's in it's worst drought in 80 years, and beijing is undergoing flash floods? and besides the ironic inappropriateness of this crap, wtf does the industrial revolution have to do with a 2000 year old sporting tradition in any case? and hospital beds?? and then that neverending tribute to english pop? the whole night was more a trumpeting of england's past glory than a celebration of sport or peoples coming together over the next 2 weeks. and btw wtf does 'hey jude' have to do with anything related to those next 2 weeks? there are 5 dozen other british songs that would have made more sense...

barcelona, sydney, and beijing were simply amazing
athens and atlanta were spectacular in their own rights
this was just an utter fiasco
