Gil doesn't do a good job of running the offense. He jogs the ball up the court and stands around the top of the key. He jacks up shots often, rarely drives to the basket, and doesn't set his teammates up much. He has look better the last 2 games though. I started following him/Wiz since he's on my fantasy team and killing it atm.
Free Andray Blatche, I have the dude on my fantasy team and when he was a starter when Jamison was out he was averaging like 20+ points 10 rebounds on 55% shooting. He was even dropping a few threes.
What's with Caron Butler? It seems like every time he has an open jumper he chooses to drive instead instead of taking the shot....
I don't watch a lot of Wizards basketball but here are some thoughts and questions I have after watching them play the Celtics tonight and also seeing a few other glimpses of them over the course of the season: The Wizards have plenty of talent but seem to lack the brains and chemistry to utilize that talent. Butler, Jamison, Arenas, Miller, Haywood, Blatche, Foye, McGee, Young, Stevenson... That's plenty of talent to work with... a lot more than most teams in the league. I have to wonder if Flip is part of the problem. There is no excuse for so much stupidity and poor play. Horrible shot selection (or playcalling by the coach), lack of awareness of game situations (or the coach not communicating effectively), selfish play, defensive breakdowns, etc... Arenas and Jamison took a couple of horrible shots late in the game. They didn't even make the Celtics' defense work. Did Flip draw up those awful plays? And WTF was Foye doing after getting that rebound? He seemed to have no clue how much time was on the clock. Is Flip not getting through to his players? I know the players are ultimately responsible for what happens on the court but coaches need to do draw up plays at times. They need to do things to foster chemistry. They need to help keep the players' heads in the game. Is Flip doing these things effectively?
I don't think much of Flip Saunders as coach either. I'm on record with that before the Wizards even hired him. But the chemistry on that team is gone and maybe the core needs to be broken up. I don't believe for one minute that Jamison is the problem because the Wizards would crumble into dirt without him. IMO, either Gilbert or Caron Butler needs to go. Something isn't right between one of them and the rest of the team. It's also possible Flip Saunders is the main problem and he just isn't up to the task. He may have lost the players already.
Brooksball, i think flips teams always have identity problems. When he had kg, they weren't a great offensive or defensive team. They didn't run alot, nor did they grind out games. He went to detroit and the process bringing the team down was his downfall. I think he knows the game x and o wise, but he's like steve blake, just good enough to lose with.
Thought it would d be fun to trash some of our Clutchfans posters' for their asinine optimism about the Wizards 2009 season. What a bunch of frickin' idiots. Spoiler Keep an eye out for my "[Official] Wizards 2010-2011 Season Thread" coming sometime in October. It promises to be a LAUGH RIOT. /thread
Good post. You are taking this as well as any Wizards fan could. I don't know how hard core you are, but now it's all about planning for next season. The Wizards need to figure out who figures in the long term plans. Out of respect, they should trade Jamison to a contender. They should dump Caron Butler for whatever they can get for him. The youngsters that remain will have a chance to prove if they belong in the NBA as starters or rotation players. It won't be easy for you to watch but that's how it is some seasons (not that you don't already know that well). Who is your 2nd favorite team? Hope you have LPBB to follow them.
Well, the Wizards are my second favorite team (all be it distant second to the Rockets). I go to a few games every season. Probably go to 3 or 4 more this year. Jamison is such a class act. Was just watching the opening of tonight's game and he gave a heartfelt apology to all the fans before tip-off. He seemed genuinely upset and embarrassed about how the team appeared to make light of the situation. Almost looked like he was about to break down. I agree they should trade him too, but he is pretty much the heart and soul of the team and sets a good example for the youngsters. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if they play a little better the rest of the season. The offense definitely ran smoother when Boykins was in for Arenas. Plus, Miller comes back tonight which should help immensely. But yeah, it's all about seeing what the young guys can do now. Just joking about the "end thread." I'll still try and update the thread a few times as the season goes on if there's anything interesting to report.
And what do you know...they come out and beat the Magic the first game. You know it's actually not a bad starting lineup if they could just get some consistent production out of Foye. PG: Foye SG: Miller SF: Butler PF: Jamison C: Haywood
So,after gutting team the Wizards Beat Minnesota. And then they beat...the Nuggets? One day after the Nuggets beat Cleveland. Maybe they were tired? It wasn't even really a close game with the Wizards winning by 10 points. This is the starting lineup they're putting on the court. PG: Foye SG: Mike Miller SF: Josh Howard PF: Andray Blatche C: JaVale McGee Howard had 20 points, and Thornton had 21 off the bench.
It was good to see the crowd get into it down the stretch of the Nuggets game and get some satisfaction with the win. If the Wizards draft the right player in the lottery and sign a marquee player over the summer, next season could work out. But talk about a hard luck franchise.
