I have never been so confused with the coverage of Olympics. I thought the night games in America were morning games the next day in China. and if you are on the east coast at 11:00 PM, you are watching live. but west coasters are getting a "live" tag, but it's really a three hour delay. so phelps 8th gold was in the last hour or two in real time, correct? what is the 14 hour comment in reference to?

Beijing is 12 hours ahead of EDT, 13 ahead of CDT, etc. Depends on the event being shown really but for the most part the primetime events have been live. Yes, I believe Mountain time people are also getting this. Yes, it was live. The 100 M Mens track and field finale was held 14 hours ago but was rebroadcast in a primetime slot.
Beijing is only 12 hours ahead of us in the ET zone. Because the basketball game was shown live here this morning when it started. The night stuff should typically be the next morning stuff in the ET zone, but some of it is last night replays to fill time before the events start in the morning. At least that is how it has gone so far.
