does anyone know how the World Record line works? does it go at a constant velocity the whole race or is it somehow actually synched with whatever the person did in the previous WR race? i assume it's just a constant rate.

it looks like synchronized with the record holder. doesn't look like constant rate to me.

I think its prolly constant velocity.

    Otherwise..

Can you imagine Lezak's WR line in the 2012 Olympics? Constant velocity then BAM, super velocity!

That Cavic dude just took too long of a stroke, it cost him by the slimmest of margins.

anyone else worried about this protest? i'm worried we'll get some snapshot that shows cavic's fingernail touching before phelps (although i guess i can't see how the timer could be wrong since there have been several other .01 differences).

visually, it looks like he got there first. they said it's a sensor, so maybe he didn't touch it hard enough. :D

The timer is the timer - actually the underwater side profile shot (which they only showed once) appeared to show Phelps touching just barely first or simultaneously because you could actually see the touchpad unlike the other angles where it appeared to be obscured. At most the Croats can get a double gold.

Check out the replay, I think his fingers hit first but ABOVE the sensor pad, then his upper palm hit the sensor as his hand flattened out.

It's China's fault. They rigged the race for Phelps to take the spotlight off of their female gymnasts. :D

it's not that bad. my uncle didn't take a breath for 100 meters. he just stayed on the bottom of the pool.

they can protest but even his coach can't deny Cavic mailed it in that last 5 meters thinking it was over. Phelps saw that he needed to take another half stroke, made his move, and got there.
