Yes... I agree... the history and context of the anthems do make them very awesome. It is important to remember history, so we don't repeat it.
LMAO. i have lived here for more than 13 years. i still don't know the words. the "rockets" part i know though. because it stands out.
the only questionable event was the balance beam, if you looked at the scores someone listed earlier. the other scores, the Chinese scored all lower, even though she didn't mess up at all. so who is to say it was rigged?
It tells a story, much the same as China's... of a time when it seemed all hope was lost... Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? (usually it stops there... but there are three more verses!) On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected now shines in the stream: 'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion, A home and a country should leave us no more! Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand Between their loved home and the war's desolation! Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust." And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
I like the US anthem too because its so flexible, who ever sings it can add their own particular style too it.
why? i don't go hunting or anything. as a none American citizen, i think i know way more anthem than vast majority of the foreigners. Dick Cheney should give me discount at gas pump.
i tried to play Chinese anthem with my electric guitar with HEAVY HEAVY distortion. it sounds very good IMHO. nothing better than a metal version of Chinese national anthem.
ya, the current team is worse than the old teams even though they are more physically gifted. lack of dedication and heart. what a bunch of p*****s.
what's what the Chinese want. not here though. too much protectionism and very conservative. my initial impression of US when i got here, was, way more conservative than i thought. i thought people were hornier.
Yea but singing it is a different story, nothing says soothing and calm like "using our flesh and blood to create a great wall" or "Charging under the enemy's artillery fire".
