USA: Gold in both men's and women's beach volleyball and playing for the gold in both men's and women's indoor volleyball.
I missed the coverage from today. Did they broadcast the men's 400M race? I'm trying to find out if i'm allowed to comment on it yet.
How does that explain Michelle Kwan who has never won Olympic gold but has made a crap load of endorsement dollars herself?
Maybe I was mistaken (not a big figure skating fan), but I thought Michelle Kwan was famous because she repeatedly failed at the Olympics, and won't turn pro in order to get the gold. Which kind of proves the point that it's really not about "trying your best and working hard".
Actually Kwan is famous because she won 5 world championships, 9 U.S. Championships, and two Olympic medals (1 silver and 1 bronze). She is the most decorated US figure skater in the history of our country. She absolutely busted her ass to get where she is today and she deserves every bit of it.
Water Polo is a pretty freaking cool sport. It's like Football, Basketball, and Wrestling combined in one. Never really payed attention to it, but it looks like an awesome sport.
That's all that matters really. You think most athletes give a rip about what the audience thinks? Look at the men's gymnastics team, they won the bronze and couldn't be more happy. Gold medalist get most of the attention but that doesn't mean they get all of it.
Furthermore, you think that a gold medalist from Jamaica is going to get endorsement money afterwards? Most gold medalists from other countries disappear into obscurity after the Olympics, even alot of the USA gold medalists won't get endorsement attention afterwards. The other guy pretty much explained it for you and shot down your theory. But I will say it doesn't hurt that Michelle is easy on the eyes and therefore makes her a desirable person to endorse companies' products.
This is true. I mean who is going to give the fencing, rowing or sailing women endorsements for their achievements? Better yet, can you tell me their names WITHOUT looking them up because I sure as hell can't. You know what though, I doubt they give a s--- what any of us or anybody else thinks or knows about them.
It is actually nicer to be a gold medalist in countries like Bahamas. You become an instant national hero. For example, Bahamas' president ordered a national holiday to welcome their only gold medalist back. USA, China and Russia have too many gold medals. So being a gold medalist in these countries gets much less attention unless you are Michael Phelps.
Completely and utterly wrong. If anyone thinks that then they completely miss the mission of the Olympic Games. http://www.olympicspirit.org/mission.php Some of the better quotes: One of my favorite moments of the games was the US Gymnastics team; without quite possibly their two best players, they not only made the final team competition but they earned th bronze. And then Laura Wilkinson yesterday...two disasterous dives in the finals of the women's platform diving event. She knew she didn't have a chance at a medal at that point, yet everytime she got up onto that platform she had the biggest smile on her face
