i'm sure that won't deter a little kid from wanting to play baseball. cheating is so rampant in sports now that it's sad. the only sports that i really trust right now is really basketball b/c doping in basketball may make you worse as a basketball player. but even in the NBA, you have refs gambling and fixing some games. the integrity of sports now is really in question. but it is what it is.
I think it's pretty shortsighted to think that nobody else but the individual's coaches would know their true age...especially in a competition this big. If it is just an isolated incident though, then perhaps it is fair to just ban said coach.
the national team doesn't pick right before the Olympics. they pick them even younger so they can train better. at younger age, it's even harder to tell the real age IMHO. i am not sure how often this happens, if she is underage. it really depends on the individual. there are good coaches, then there are bad coaches. just like everywhere else.
i'm about as sure she's underage as i am that OJ is guilty. the cached documents apparently come from the General Sports something or other of China. and the passports came from the Chinese government. you can pick whichever you think is lying, but those sound pretty high up, not local gyms and not just one person. and considering you need to be a minimum age to compete, why in the world would the original lie be to say she was 2 years younger than she was? what, the chinese government just now conveniently got to the bottom of this dastardly lie meant to keep one of their best gymnasts out of the olympics? yes, that makes sense. that would be like danny almonte lying and saying he was 2 years older than he was.
it's not hard to get official documents in China you know. just pay some money, know some people, back doors. you guys really should find out how China works. it's not the same as US.
well that certainly allays my fears that the passports are false. well, US track and field has finally taken a break from sucking and started to win some medals.
How is it that there's always someone on front row ready to give the medalists their country's flag? And why have all track and field athletes become so obsessed with draping it around themselves? It didn't seem to always be like that, but maybe I'm mistaken. Personally I don't know if I'd do that, at least not wear it...seems disrespectful to me.
most people here think that the central government has complete control over everything in China. that's just not the case. local officials have a lot power. connections, corruptions, just part of the culture. people in China love connections.
You know, that cheating like this has occurred on an international stage in the sport's biggest competition perhaps is more of condemnation against the FIG than anything else; They probably should be scrutinizing the documents from all countries much more than they have.
having now finally seen BMX, i gotta say it kinda sucks. i mean the race is exciting, but it's half just whoever stays standing (never a good thing to me to have so much random chance in an event to determine the best), the course looks like something i could go see at a go-kart track or something, the event isn't very long, and it just seems out of place. you can't really feel like an olympic champion, can you?
I think I'd like BMX a little more if the races were multiple laps. It's seems to win requires more than a little bit of luck.
just shows how ridiculous that age rule is. they should just get rid of it for next international competition. more rules means more things to worry about. i think just the judging part is big enough of a problem for them already. they need to figure out how to get a better scoring system than worry about how old the girls are. a lot girls from other countries look young as hell too.
