Funny interview. Their enthusiasm and gratitude about winning again was great. "We need a new generation of volleyball players"
i don't know if it is or isn't but they specifically said she got it because she's been a huge kidd fan her whole life and that's his number.
Have you seen a full professional/olympic level match or played badminaton yourself? It requires high endurance, high agility, flexibility and explosive jumping/smashing to excel in. Seems 'sporty' enough to me. If you haven't already you should give it a shot, you might even end up liking it
Gotta agree with you. Me and friends of mine used to play badminton as teenagers and it is very exhausting, intense and competitive. People make fun of me when I tell them this but they don't know any better. Badminton is like tennis on steroids because of the intensity.
Yeah after a game I'd get muscle aches the next day in all sorts of places I never thought would ache. All that bending/stretching at fast speeds works muscle groups that aren't used as much in daily life and other sports.
LMAO ok I think we are all well versed in the "age" controversy of the women's gymnastics and quite frankly I could care less how old they are even though I think they are younger than advertised. I think given how young they may be makes it even more remarkable with what they did. That given once it got out that certain web pages were being altered or deleted I had a hunch that just because the tournament was over this wasn't going to be the end of it. I was right. It drew the attention of bloggers/hackers and it also doesn't help that China is one of the all time favorite targets of these people due to their secrecy. That being said it looks like they turned up two overlooked spreadsheets published by the Chinese government on sport.gov.cn that both list He Kexin's birthday as 01-01-1994. These spreadsheets were issued by the General Administration of Sport of China. Now this more than likely won't affect the standings in the least bit ,but it will surely add to the amusement given that once these people find blood in the water they attack even harder. I wonder what else they will turn up now lol!! Here the link to this blog: http://strydehax.blogspot.com/2008/08/hack-olympics.html
On a more "local" note now it looks like the Lopezes are off to a fine start. Lopezes open with taekwondo wins Diana Lopez gets Sugar Land family off to fine start 2-0 opening victory sets stage for brother Mark, who wins as well By JEROME SOLOMON Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle Olympic Bureau Aug. 20, 2008, 11:23PM BEIJING - Diana Lopez of Sugar Land was the first Lopez family member to fight at this year’s Olympics, and she got the family off to a fine start. Lopez easily handled Chonnapas Premwaew of Thailand 2-0 in the opening match of the women’s taekwondo competition at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium Thursday morning. “I feel strong and confident,” Lopez said. “I don’t think anyone can compete with me if I fight like this all day.” Premwaew beat Lopez 2-0 in the quarterfinals of an Olympic qualifier last year in Birmingham. This time, Lopez was able to keep Primwaew from crowding her, allowing her to get full extension, making her front-leg attack dangerous. Premwaew didn't push the issue, allowing Lopez to control the bout. Lopez, competing at her first Olympics, advances in the featherweight class to take on Azize Tankrikulu of Turkey. The 16-fighter competition concludes with the gold medal match 15 minutes before the men. Brother Mark had an even more dominant performance ripping through Nesar Ahmad Bahave of Afghanistan 3-0 at 150 pounds. Behave won the silver medal at last year’s World Championships. Fifth-ranked Mark, a 2005 World Champion, will face Germany’s Daniel Manz in the second round. The final is scheduled for Thursday evening here. (7:15 a.m. CDT) “It is a great feeling to get it started the right way,” Diana Lopez said. “I’m confident; the crowd is here for me. This is fun.” Older brother Steven, the two-time defending Olympic champion, was seated in front of their parents (Julio and Ondina) among a loud pro-U.S. contingent, will not fight until Friday in Beijing (Thursday night in Houston).
