By that logic, any game decided by a margin of under 5 points should count as a loss for both teams, since they put themselves in a position where one call could decide the outcome. No one expects officials to be perfect. However, if they blow a huge call, there has to be accountability for actions. If Rafer Alston goes out and shoots 5-26 in a game and the Rockets lose, he's going to be blamed for the loss. He's not perfect, but we hope for excellence in sports (otherwise, why play?), and when it doesn't happen, someone or some thing is the cause. If officials make a mistake on an easy call -- particularly one late in the game that had to do with the outcome -- they should be criticized and held accountable. There's nothing wrong about that in the least.
