Agree. I've never had an office. Or not one by myself at least. Where I am right now is a one long ass shared table. I get about 36" of space with a filing cabinet. I'm constantly bumping knees with the guy next to me. But this is the most money I've ever made in my life, so it's all good.
I have a large cube with high walls. When I worked as a recruiter, I had an office that was bigger than my current bosses boss has right now. It was on the 15th floor and had a nice view of 610 North. But I HATED it. It was lonely and depressing. Before I got this position, I worked in one of a bunch of smaller cubes without the high walls. It was actually fun because we all got along and were constantly playing jokes on each other - Jim and Dwight style. Now, all the fun guys have been laid off and I work with a bunch of DUDS. Everyone pretty much keeps to themselves because of these high walls. That's the main reason I post here so much...
my entire career I had an office, even right out college...of course, I've been laid off twice, but that's another discussion... In my current Job, I truly know why cubes suck...no privacy, hearing other people talk/pick their butt/nose, fart, et al...how are you suppose to sneak off early...lol...
I guess I got the best of both worlds. a cube in an office (3 of us share a large office). Nice big windows overlooking downtown Austin.
That's easy! Leave your computer on with a work-related document maximized (a random Excel spreadsheet always works for me) Set the screensaver to black and have it kick on in 15 minutes Leave 15 minutes early using the stairs so you don't get caught in the elevator lobby Enjoy your weekend I do it this way every Friday and have yet to be caught. Even if you do get caught, it's forgotten about by the time Monday arrives.
Cube all the way! If I want to leave early, I just leave early but I don't do it very often. We can't mess with the screensavers so can't do ima's trick.
I've been in a cube for the last 5 years. I miss the privacy of an office. It makes it much more difficult to get work done when you have people walking into your cube the entire day. My boss has an office but doesn't use it. He chooses to sit in a cube with the rest of his team every day. I'm not sure why.
Love my office. I had to move out of it for about two years and had a cube with large walls, and the only reason it was enjoyable was due to the hotness across from me, as we would constantly flirt. She left, I'm now back in an office with a parking spot right next to the front door. Can't complain. Money blows. So ya, I guess I can.
Office as well. By the way, I was in your city this past weekend. Completely fell in love with it. Can't wait to go back.
small cube, high walls, directly across from a conference room (absolutely no soundproofing) and caddy-corner from my managers' offices (she has direct line-of-sight to my computer screens).
office with a view of the galleria area. First time I've had an office, other jobs have been from a cube, love it for the most part but it does get lonley, but nothing worse than making a cold call and having 3 people right next to you hearing you get denied! I rather get denied in private.
For about 12 years, I was in a cubicle with at minimum 3 other people in an office. I probably have moved my "work area" the most times out of anyone in the entire place where I work now. But now I have my own office now... in the basement... Yeap. I'm the MILTON of our workplace. Spoiler  I kid... I don't look like Milton at all. I have a small (that's what she said ) office at about 8' by 8' feet where I can now hang all my DREAM and Dynamo and Texans and Astros and México and América posters... I couldn't hang all of them up before. I don't know what's so depressing or bad about this thread. If you don't like office work or cubicle work or where you work, do something to change it... ---- Seen it, Ms. Undisputed Champ Meggo DeLaHoya.
I have the biggest office in the whole building... But that's because I work in the Repro room...
Was sharing an office with 1 person. I liked it. Now, they knocked down a wall and put 5 of us in cubes in the 1 room. I f***ing hate it. I begged our people that, if they were going to put us in cubes, please don't make them gray. They couldn't be more gray and depressing.
I actually have two offices connected as a suite to house a lot of equipment, but it's really not all that spacious. And I hate the lighting. Overhead lights are flourescents that blind the **** out of me, so I use standing lamps and a desk lamp that I brought in, but it's still not really bright enough. It's either too dark or sun-tan bright, my pick. I've always been picky about lighting where I live, and I feel like I'd be happier if I had nice even lighting in my office. (/end mundane rant) That must be awful
I'm a cubical drone next in line to be promoted to manager. But we are moving to a new building with an open floor plan, and only directors and up will have offices. So I get to stay in my same cube in the new building instead of looking forward to an office.
