Clearly that was a HR. It’s not even debatable. The fact that replay let the call stand is a real travesty. It completely changed the game. I know all the bs about the game would flow differently, but come on, everyone knows 2 runs in a playoff game, especially to tie it back up, is monumental. Plain and simple, this is one of the worst calls in baseball history.
I think they should build some type of laser wall that automatically triggers when the ball passes the wall... get rid of the umps entirely!
I still feel good about the pitching matchups. Sox seem to be pretty used up. Yes the club is banged up, not getting the breaks and not playing their best ball, but I still believe they can win the series.
The allegations of cheating before the game and then the BS call on Altuves hr is really shameful for MLB. Sign of the times, by any means necessary, it is what it is.
What is the point of the fence? If that is the case for MLB, just let the players go into the stand and catch the ball. If they want to prevent this again, build the wall (higher).
That's the most baffling thing to me. Making that call means they expect the fans to refrain from reaching for a ball that was coming directly at them. I saw a tweet from a reporter last night saying "shame on the fans for not doing better." Like they are supposed to stand there with their hands down while the ball comes directly at them. Ridiculous.
Doesn't matter Brian, down 3 to 1. Lose today and stay home. Thought for sure get back to Boston but now there is a chase it doesn't happen. They will have to win 3 in a roll to get to WS. Do the Astros have it in them to do that against the best team in baseball?
Aren’t the fans that “interfere” usually escorted out from the park? Don’t think he left and they never once mentioned it, further proof of such a total BS call.
Did you even watch the game last night? The whole thing was rigged. MLB isn’t the disinterested, hunky-dory entitiy you think it is.
RedSox with 7 two out RBI and Astros with 2. Astros also left two more on base with 2 outs. The series could be 2-2 or 3-1 the other way of a few of the hits sequenced differently or a few balls bounced differently. It’s hard to blame the hitting when they are putting up 5 runs a game. The difference is Sox bullpen is executing, the Astros is not, and Bradley Jr. is playing like an MVP. Not what I would have expected, and definitely frustrating.
Captain obvious I know, two things: Do not let them sweep us at home.Do not let them celebrate on our field. Period. Find a way to win tonight.
Even Verlander walked in a damn run in Game 1, so the entire pitching staff has had its issues in this series. As for the series, the Stros have no excuses tonight. Aside from being an obvious must win, it's Verlander at home on full rest vs David Price on 3 days rest. Not only must JV pitch well, but he has to give them at least 7 innings and spare the bullpen who had to pitch a lot of innings in Games 3 and 4. If you get it to Game 6, it's a tossup between Cole on full rest vs a weakened Sale or Eovaldi on 3 days rest. Then anything is possible if they force a Game 7.
MLB didn’t walk in a run or let Bradley Jr go deep again. West made what I think was a bad call, but I don’t the video was conclusive evidence to overturn. MLB might not be disinterested, but that doesn’t mean they rigged it.
The ridiculous and wrong call, notwithstanding- we have to look at ourselves. You have to be healthy, smart, and, lucky to repeat. We have been none of those things. Our hitters aren't hitting, our pitchers look like garbage, and Hinch can't seem to press the right buttons. Frustrated.
Yeah cus old eagle eyes could definitely tell that was fan interference from that far away. What a dipshit.
Rigged is too strong a word, but MLB does seem to be favoring the Red Sox. And I'm sorry but that call did change the entire complexion of that game. If that's ruled a HR, it's at least a tie game after 1 inning. Even if it's ruled a live ball, you have runners at 2nd and 3rd with only one out, meaning the Stros at worst leave that inning with a run on the board. MLB has to be praying for Boston to wrap this up tonight or Saturday. Cuz if the Astros force a Game 7(not unthinkable with Verlander and Cole on the mound) only to come up short by a run or two on Sunday, then that call by Joe West will live in infamy.
As I said, I think the call was wrong and I agree it changed the complexion of the game. However, the bad call was on Joe West and Joe West makes lots of bad calls. Once the call was made, I don't see how they could have overturned it from video and Joe West making a bad call is just Joe West, not the MLB rigging anything.
