Sure. On Defense we have Dwight who tries to block any shot that`s even close to the lane (that`s a positive). On the one hand that means tougher shots for the opposition, so more missed shots - but on the other it means his man is free to go for the rebound. Our other players don`t go to box out Dwights man, or if they do, they leave another player wide open under the rim. So the opposing team usually has at least one player directly under the rim that is completely unguarded.
Houston also gives up the most shots per game (94.1), which would obviously lead to more offensive rebounds for the other team.
Lots more long outside shots from opponents because of Dwight in the middle, meaning that missed shots tend to clang away from the middle, and the opponents get more of those as offensive rebounds than regular missed shots.
we may as well give up some of the run and gun offense (not like we have much anyway) and let most of our players go for the rebounds like JVG style
Because we don't attack the defensive boards. We are already ready to run and gun once a shot is taken from an opposition player.
It is simple....... BOX OUT... The Rockets do not box out at all on the defensive end. As a result anyone that wants to gets position under the basket. You have Howard challenging any and everything (and out of position) and you have the perimeter players helter skelter switching and running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
See stat on missed 3's. Bev, Harden, Parsons, shooting 33% or below 33% from our inefficient 3's. Only Cisco, Casspi, and Lin shooting the 3 ball higher than 33% from beyond the arc so far this season. So out of 10 3 attempts roughly 7 rebound opportunities. And Morey doesn't like mid rangers. If the starting unit doesn't make its 3's we might have to go for midrangers or anything that goes in.
It really is as simple as this. Now, fixing it is hard. That means all five players on the court has to be completely aware of where every man on the court is after the shot is up (as opposed to just simply being responsible for your own man). It is about one man sliding over to help box out Dwight's man and one man sliding over to help the helper and so on.
That was supposed to be one of the strong points of the TT concept. Oh well. I think as TJones develops, he be better at recognizing his role in the weak-side help and be able to come up with more rebounds. He's already making improvements in that area.
