it's not an oxymoron.... those first few are degrading to asians, but i'm not asian so they're not offensive to me. i see what you're saying though, but even the one's about white people, like white men can't jump for example, don't bother me.

most stereotypes are pretty ignorant, and they're spouted my ignorant people who i don't concern myself with.

I'm Asian and I find some black jokes and stereotypes offensive.

whit men can't jump is not on the same level as sexual stereotypes about an Asian female.

i'll agree that it's not nearly as offensive as most of the others out there... but should people be offended by them?

try not to be so sensitive about what's being said because

    1) look who's saying it
    2) look where they're coming from

most likely they're backwards and shouldn't be given the time of day... and in rare cases they may be correct... if they are correct then you should fix it if it's a problem, or embrace it cause it's you.

    that's my take on it.

The whole thing about stereotypes isn't whether or not they're factual, it's that they pigeonhole you into something that you may or may not be mainly based on how you look. The dangerous thing about stereotypes is that normal everyday otherwise semi intelligent people have them. That's why they're called a stereotype.

Yes I'm Asian and surprisingly I am good in math, so it's not necessarily an offensive or wrong stereotype, but by the same token, the kind of person who would so easily pigeonhole someone because of their skin color would probably assume that I have a small penis and that I would gladly dump my daughter in a ditch to have a son. Stereotypes have no place in any society because they invariably come from or lead to racism.

If I know someone or meet someone who seems like a nice fellow but he keeps referring to how smart I must be because I'm Asian or how exotic our females are, I am not going to embrace that. Though their words are well intentioned, it has no place.

    Naw, I'm cool with those.

But the one thing that really tightens my jaws is when people say drummers aren't musicians.

So the stereotype of Asians being smarter is true?

But I do know one guy who drives an oldsmobile. Not smart.

Gee, I think genocide would involve cruelty towards children, wouldn't it?

But rape? Of course I'm against it and would never condone it, but I can't say it really shocks me. I guess the difference is that I can understand what drives people to rape, murder, racism, etc. As much as I condemn such things, I can understand how they happen - the impulse. But someone who beats a dog to death? Or a kid? That takes a special kind of sickness - it's a level of depravity that is so inhuman as to be beyond my comprehension.

Well, to be fair, all you do is hit something with a stick. It's so easy a caveman could do it. ;)

Amen, brother. Nothing offends me. I can talk about "mexicans" or hear people say "Mexicans this or Mexicans that" and I don't get offended, 'cuz I know they're joking around. I think it is the intent, but I do agree that people need to grow a second layer to IGNORE that sh*t when it is meant to be hurtful. Stereotypes are just a way to point out differences, but... heck, that's what the United States was created upon... different people. F*ck, embrace it. :D

How many people in general drive American cars versus imports? It's obvious from Toyota's increase and Ford's fall that it's everyone.
I'm Vietnamese and drive a BMW btw. Not American but not Japanese. (Though my wife drives a Lexus.)

To add to what hotballa says,

The stereotypes get permiated in the media and enough that people begin to believe it's true. Watch TV enough and notice how almost all of the Asian reporters are women? Connie Chung, Sher-min Chow, Tricia Takanawa (Family Guy). How many Asian guys are on TV? Almost all of them are computer programmers or know kung-fu. Thank goodness for the guys on Lost and Heroes. When's the last time an Asian dude is the lead actor in a romantic movie? Where he gets the girl? I'm sure other races feel unrepresented too, but that's what I see.
And then that get's pushed down into society from what you see on TV? Asian women are hot and sought after. There are so many guys I know with Asian fetishes. And Asian guys are the total opposite. Asian women with other races are at least a 9:1 ratio versus Asian guy with other races. I see that as a correlation with what we see on TV.

It probably has something to do with the stereotype that asian guys are hung like a tic tac ;)

Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. When was the last time a white guy got the lead in a film made in a majority asian country?

You're right the only visible Asians should be females because the majority of white men desire them.
