So is Titus Howard going back inside? They aren't great at the top, but they seem to have pretty good depth at tackle, especially relative to the guard position.

For me, the ray of hope is Wade Phillips. I remember arguing in these very pages that the hiring of Phillips - an experienced defensive coach - would, even if nothing else was done*, make the defense exponentially better. And he did! The 2011 Texans' D was f'ing awesome. I can't predict how Nick Caley is going to work out - but it is plainly obvious the team has identified coaching as problem 1A, re: the offensive line last year. So if Caley and Popavich are just... average coordinators, the until should be better. They will coach and scheme better; they will identify talent better... * much was done: they signed Joseph and Manning and drafted Watt. But here's the thing: Phillips oversaw/championed/approved those moves. Having an adult in the room makes a tremendous difference in all areas.
Matching the talent that fits the system makes for much better outcomes. Anyone who knows about economics or business knows what synergy means. And as offensive lines must operate as a unit, working together and having communication theoretically will have superior results that each component’s personal talent.
Not sure how you got that out of this. Sounds like they haven’t seen him play football since college so they are going to wait and see.
Well, I'll drink Nick's Kool-aid but I gotta believe that his job will be in the balance if the OL is again a disaster. I hope Nick's plan is wildly successful so that we can play for a Super Bowl!
'works real hard', 'great attitude', 'great energy' this is how they would talk about kenyon green if asked.
He wasnt waived. He was put on Non-Football injury list last July. They basically stashed him to get him healthy.
It will be an interesting test. Perhaps both OL are better or perhaps both are worse. But the real interest is if one is better and one is worse.
The key is finding out if they can play them well. Sometimes they can't adjust. Sometime they fit well and are even better. There is a bit too much emphasis on Stature traits. They are a factor, but not the only one. I like more on throwing lanes so the ability to keep the interior defenders hands down is something I like to see. Last year CJ had too many passes blocked or tipped, even though he's NOT a small QB.
It will be difficult, but even the worst can be worse. But I definitely agree that the chances are it will be better. I'll be happy with anything from the middle of the pack or higher for this year.
