Patterson has been a steal considering that we got him in the 6th round. With that said, I don't know if he's good enough for us to win it all.
Keep Patterson, cut Mason and Green. Draft one OG and sign a starter. Drafted OG competes with Scruggs for starting spot.
Currently on the Camp Roster: Laremy Tunsil LT Titus Howard LG Jarrett Patterson C Shaq Mason RG Blake Fisher RT T Austin Deculus, Jaylon Thomas G Kenyon Green, Tremayne Anchrum Jr., Jerome Carvin, Nick Broeker, LaDarius Henderson 12 total at this time - Listed positions may be holdovers from last season. I do not know the status of T Zack Thomas who finished 2024 on Non-football Illness
I don't think there's any chance they cut Kenyon Green. He would not save them any cap space, and they almost certainly want new coaching to see if they can salvage him.
I thought I remember BDN saying his strat is to always draft at least one OL every year. Good start tbh.
I guess we have Howard 2 more seasons. I think he's our 2nd best OL after Tunsil. If it were up to me I'd replace the entire IOL and do it through the draft if possible.
Cap will increase $10 million for all teams. Cutting Mason saves you a whopping 2 million dollars womp womp. Cutting Howard does nothing unless it's done next year. So far $14 million cap space. The most you can realistically restructure is two contracts. Save 5 million each. You're at $24 million spending money. Cutting Autry will give you another 5 million. $28-30 million is the most I see the team having available for free agency. Now Subtract $6 million for the day 1 special teams spending spree splashes that gets BDN hard. You're now at $23 million. Subtract another $5 million for the draft class. -$18 million to spend. That's plenty for one of the better Guard/Centers available and 1 of the Moores or an Atwell at receiver. But that's it. I just don't know that they'll cut Mason to free up that spot. he was horrendous. It took an injury to make changes. Wishing they learned their lesson.
If you designate the cut post June 1st you would save additional money. (but some dead money moves to 2026) Post June 1st cap 2025 savings: Mason - $9,441,176 ($7,234,00 2026 dead cap) Autry - $8,794,118 ($3,000,000 2026 dead cap)
I've read that cutting Mason would save 9 mil and Howard 15 mil as post June 1st cuts. But even if you're correct they've got money to add 3-4 impact FA's. Say 23 mil after keeping money out for the draft picks. Fries 11 mil, Moore 5 mil, Robinson 5 mil and Hufnaga 5 Mil. You're searching for another 6-7 mil to cover the difference and have 3-4 mil left over to add FA's because of injury during the season. I belive they can find that money, mainly because the cap is going to go up way more than 10 mil. It went up almost 20 mil last year IIRC. Great post though.
You're going to have to personally take Nick's phone away and stop Nick from making his binge 2 million dollar signings on day 1 of Free agency like Lotto and Ford last season. It's going to happen again. The post June's will alleviate that much but free agency shenanigans begin in 18 days. Mason was with the Patriots from 2015-2021. He is going to get the benefit of the doubt yet again with the change of scheme. So me wanting him gone today is just another crackpipe dream. It will be a great day if Fries or Dalman only go for 11 million.
I expect Dahlman to get paid by the Bears. Fries coming off of injury I wouldn't pay more than 11-13 mil per. You're right though, somebody will probably pay more than that.
