Seth Payne was addressing this exact post yesterday … at least according to him, the same PFF has both tackles in the bottom half of the league in TOTAL performance. Run blocking is important also.
I would be the last person to know how the per-position pass protection ranking works, but I wonder if the following happens: 1. Your QB keeps getting sacked or pressured b/c your teammate on the O line is ass. 2. Your stats look good b/c you "didn't get beat" before your ass teammate.
I was thinking the same. It should read, Unfortunately, it has been overshadowed by the other half of their game, run blocking, and Kenyon Green.
Can the media not interview Chris Strausser at all? He not only gets to be awful and keep his job but doesn't have to answer for it at all.
Our 0-line: "What is this? We've never seen anything like it. Juice, is he da Mic' ? " Ok no more shaming the line. Go get 500 yards of total offense.
Is there a statistic out there that shows the difference in opposing teams blitz rates and pressure rates against the Texans offensive line before and after Nico Collins got hurt? I wanna know if Nico not being on the field has made defenses be more aggressive because he's the biggest threat the Texans have in the passing game. I wonder if Nico has that type of impact on the defenses.
Surely someone is willing to part with a guard that would be an upgrade. Mind boggling Nick has not made a move already to shore this up. If your backup center is having to be first up there’s clearly a lack of depth.
Not having a guy who can take the top off a defense is not ideal especially with CJs arm strength. He wants to get the ball down the field, but our current stable of wide outs are 4.5 guys at best. The field is cluttered. You will see this offense explode when Nico is back as he's also CJs security blanket on off platform plays. Defenses can put 8 guys in the box on disguised fronts or bring the house with cover 0 and we dont have a guy who is going to get behind the safety.
Should we make an offer? Cowboys Trade of All-Pro Zack Martin Must Be Jerry Jones Deadline Option There is a time and a place to start moving present pieces now in order to gain future assets. But by Sunday night? With the deadline on Tuesday, the Cowboys clock will be ticking. What could Martin net Dallas? We don't know that, either. But while his presence is valuable here in many ways - even on a losing team, he's a leader and a role model and a key Prescott protector - a 2025 NFL Draft pick needs to have its value calculated, too. And we are now on the eve of that "calculation'' time ... even for a player as great and valued as the legendary Zack Martin. https://athlonsports.com/nfl/dallas...in-must-be-jerry-jones-deadline-option/roster
What’s interesting is OL was one of the few places where Nick actually splurged prior to this last offseason. Tunsil and Howard both got extensions, the trade for Mason, drafting Green and then Scruggs. Other than OL Nick was signing all those 1 year FAs and cycling through the roster. Point is based on actions OL appears to be Nicks biggest focus. But it has failed miserably.
If I remember correctly, Drew Brees was such a GOAT maneuvering inside the pocket that he avoided edge rushers by just moving inside. Sean Payton realized this and saw that for someone like Brees he needed elite guards and center to avoid the pocket collapsing up the middle. It’s why he had two all pro guards in Jahari Evans and Carl Nicks and a very good center in Jonathan Goodwin. They had good tackles but the real talent on that line was the interior. Maybe the Drew Bree’s Saints Oline should be the model instead of the traditional All Pro Tackles that is generally followed.
That's supposedly also how the Pats played for Brady.... protect the center so he could step up into the pocket to complete a pass Other option is roll outs... IIRC CJ did pretty good with those
Nick needs to go after Joel Bitonio. I know they’ve already invested heavily in the offensive line, but it’s essential, CJ Stroud's health and development are at risk behind this line as currently constituted. Juice is still adjusting and learning, and he needs guidance. But when the players on either side are struggling, it drags him down too. Laremy isn’t the issue. We knew his strengths and weaknesses when they traded for him; while he’s never been a top-tier run blocker, he’s excellent in pass protection. He’s allowed only two sacks this season and has been reliable at protecting CJ. No hate for Tytus either. Shaq Mason will likely hold down the right guard position for the rest of the season. While he’s not exceptional, he’s durable, and they’re lacking depth at his spot. Still, it’s probably time to look for a long-term upgrade after this season. Bringing in a veteran like Bitonio could significantly elevate the line’s performance. His experience and skill would give the younger guys direction and bolster the entire offense. The Browns are struggling, and at 32 years old with a $12 million salary next year, he likely isn’t in their long-term plans.
