Personally, I thought it was an offensive foul. He runs into snd gets stonewalled by the verticality without pushing like that.
Sometimes it can be a challenge to not say anything if you think the refs have screwed you over a few times. But Sengun is still young, he has plenty of time to learn how to work the refs. There is definitely an art to it and yelling at them every time you think they mess up a call is definitely not it.
I said earlier that it's an Blake Griffin dunk. I hated Griffin for always using his off arm to push off or push down the defender when he dunked over them. I thought it should be called offensive foul. Now the uproar about this is that the Blake style dunking is almost NEVER called offensive foul in the NBA, I think mostly because of its entertainment value. Kind of like some fancy breakaway dunks are traveling but are never called because they look so sweet. So Sengun being called offensive foul the first time he attempted it was really unfair.
Think about this , if collins was sengun in this position would the ref call sengun a def foul? As we saw last year and this year even he jumps vertically refs always call sengun def foul. I hope this trend topic gets sengun out of usual suspect at his def plays. His foul rate and whining would drop significantly if refs do not call him bogus fouls.
The sad part is if Sengun lowered his shoulder and charged Collins that would be defensive foul on Collins. The restricted area rules are some of the worst in the NBA.
I didn't think Sengun could make it to the rim from that launch point. He always surprises me. Wish we could see him flash more of his vertical on his chip shots. Maybe with a little more strength, we can see that. When I saw it in the game, I also thought that he cleared Collins out. The refs are sort of expecting it, as he did that sort of thing a lot last year. I guess it's part of his European experience. They allow big men a lot more room for physicality, pushing, and shoving. Here, the only players that can do all that are guards. Other players constantly try to catch him with cheap moving screens or hooking his arms (like that other bogus call earlier in the quarter). With a little more experience, he won't get caught in as many of their traps. One thing is for sure, Sengun's a fast learner--something we can't say for some of our other starters.
Makes no sense, Collins is moving over the whole way, one foot is in the restricted area, and all Sengun does it put his arm there to brace for the impact. How that gets called an offensive foul is just crazy.
It’s definitely an offensive foul imo. What’s annoying is that players do the same thing and get away with it. Sengun just can’t catch a break with the refs
Give it time. Once they get used to his game and he becomes a veteran the refs will love on Sengun a lot more. They NBA refs love on vets. It’s always been that way
Not even close to an offensive foul. It's a very dangerous defensive foul because he moves under him as Sengun is taking off. Just because he jumps straight up doesn't change the fact he undercut him
He used his arm to prevent him from blocking it, that’s an offensive foul. I see that happen a lot, I’ve seen Jalen do it.
That dunk was so filthy i had to switch to p*rn when my colleagues approach to see what I'm looking at.
there is so manu rules and subrules in nba...a ref can decide however he wants and justify it by the book...
forget about foul rate he would be a much better defender cause he would feel more relaxed and free to play... and that is the key to being good...if draymond didnt have such a great leeway on defense he would heave never become an elite defender...
One rule is that you have to be in legal guarding position, which typically means that the offensive player has to have a chance to change direction if you move into a position as a defender. Clearly once an offensive player has begun their upward movement to the basket they can't change direction, and that's when collins slid into the spot and jumped. Blocking foul. You can't call the 2nd foul of Sengun's arm. You call the first foul. Which was a blocking foul. They screwed it up and need to fix that in the future.
