    Then her son was an idiot. When was the last time the Army was used to defend the country? When was the last time the Army was used in a foreign war with limited to zero impact on American security? The second one happend a lot more recently and much more often than the first. The Armed Forces are a tool that is used to back up policy. Not even the National Guard or Coast Guard are used solely for defense of the country.

    How can anyone say that Drudge took her words "out of context"? Did you actually read the article?

    Those quotes contradict everything she's recently said.

    Yes, twice now. She was upset before, but decided to keep it to herself when she met Bush. As a result of what she feels to be major mistakes, she cannot keep those feelings to herself anymore and has decided to comment publicly. Where exactly is the contradiction?

    halfbreed IMO she was being respectful to the president and I hardly would call what she was saying "praise."

    But I guess we're not allowed to change our mind these days when it comes to Bush's war. That just shows we're terrorist sympathizers.

    I saw this woman last night, Al Franken was talking about her and had a clip from her interview on CNN. Honestly, even Al Franken couldn't fully support her, he qualified all her points by saying you have to remember she's a grieving mother. In the interview she really didn't have much to say, criticizing the Bush's demeanor in the meeting.

    This war should be a lesson to all the kids and families out their thinking about joining the army. I think this is a lady who had her son join and never expected him to see any action.

    I am against the war, but sometimes people have to accept responsibility for their own life. If you join the military, you could see action. You could die in training. It's a dangerous job, more so then being a teacher, office clerk, mechanic, etc. For that matter, a person assumes a certain amount of risk of death too when becoming a police officer, fire fighter or astronaut. I feel for this grieving mother and others around the country, but at this point if anyone joins the Army or Marines they can't expect not to possibly end up in Iraq or Afghanstan. Sounds like the poor woman needs to be in counseling more then standing out in the heat of August in Texas.

    Afghanistan did not attack us. Using that logic, Israel would be fully justified in doing to Palestine what America is doing/has done in Afghanistan. We attacked Afghanistan. You can tell which side is on defense by what country the war is being fought in. America is on defense when the war is being fought here. The last time that the US was attacked, the enemy was the Confederacy. Anyone that joins the Army expecting to defend the United States is in for a rude awakening. The Army is used to go impose US policy on other countries, not defend this one, because no one has been stupid enough to attack us.

    What the hell is wrong with Bush and his people that they don't do the human thing and meet with the woman for 30 minutes?! He's on vacation for five weeks! Just be a man, Bush. From a political standpoint, I don't know what kind of idiots decide that going after a grieving mother is a good idea. These people are disgusting.

    Israel and Palestine is not a parallel to Afghanistan and the U.S.

    The Palestinian authority has jailed many militants and terroists, and so has Israel.

    There was an attack on the U.S. We were on the defense. It happened Sept. 11th 2001. In Pearl Harbor we were on defense. Later we attacked Japan.

    The people who attacked the U.S. were being supported and hosted in Afghanistan. They were and are a threat to the U.S. The soldiers who went after them, and their allies the Taliban were definitely defending the U.S.

    You can try and claim that nobody has attacked the U.S. but you might want to see what the families of 3000 Americans who lost their loved ones on 9/11 have to say about it.

    We were defending the U.S. We did this by attacking the allies of those that were a threat to the U.S. Those allies of our enemy were also sheltering our enemy.

    I guess we just have different perspectives on what it means to defend America. I will agree to disagree.

    defending America != defending Isreal

    Unless of course, you are a member of AIPAC.
