Agreed. Never thought it was every any close between him and Lamarcus.

Aldridge was such a better prospect, I saw plenty of both in college and I was confused as to why Tyrus went as high as he did. It just goes to show you if teams think you can play big then you're going to shoot up the draft boards.

I think you are thinking of Stromile Swift here. When Thomas was being drafted I recall them making the comparison to Swift but they said he had more desire/motor than Swift alluding to not being so boneheaded to go along with his athleticism.

Drugs did Rob in there were rumors he was getting high as far back as those Milby days. Its no secret he played like **** against Carolina in the Final Four because he was out getting high the night before the game. UH did a great job staying close in that game considering their best player had checked out on them.

The "potential" was that he could put on the extra weight he needed, add something other than a decent post-fade to his post game, and develop more of an outside shot. He was already a really good defender, with outstanding explosiveness and a huge wingspan.

He never put on the weight and never worked on his post game. He still has a good mid-range jumper, but never went out further than that.

Considering how TMac ended up, I think Spanoulis was just ahead of his time. We just didn't heed the warning...

Goin' old school here with Sam Bowie. He had a bigger impact for Portland than Odem and didn't hang around as long. Ralph Sampson's knees went early, but nothing compared to Bowie's. Sampson wasn't a bust, the best point forward ever. He was just over used when injured, much like Yao.

    Michael Olowokandi

Everyone thought because he was another african center who's last name started with "Ol" that we had the second coming of Hakeem.

    Whoops.

Aneurysm. I got TT and Swift mixed up with the Rockets but my point is the same.

IMO, the one and only reason he got drafted high was because of LSU's surprise Final Four run that year where he hit 2-3 mid-range jumpers. I've never seen him demonstrate a reliable jumper during his bust of an NBA career. He has nothing to hang his hat on other the vertical leaping. He could have been explosive if he knew how to dribble.

If injuries count as "bust" then death definitely should be. Many people, including myself thought he was going to be a superstar.

Honestly if tyrus had Kidd or Chris Paul he could have been Kenyon in the early Jason Kidd years, he was an insane athlete man

Yea I think they misinterpreted you. I know you had no Ill-will in calling him a bust.

Too good to play behind Drexler. He was definitely on his way to superstardom.

It takes more than just crazy athleticism to make it in the league. Not even Magic or Big O could've helped Tyrus.
