of course they regret it NOW. but looking back, it wasnt that bad of a choice as he was a skilled 7footer dominating college with one working hand.

i hate when injuries derail athletes' careers. oden's career never even started basically. he was injured in college.

Jesus, this guy makes Yao look like Dwight Howard.

Health always trumps talent. It doesn't matter if Oden was the next Hakeem or Kareem Abdul Jabbar, if he was injured every year since the 7th grade.

Yao Ming and T-mac taught us all about talent and health. Talent just means that the player sitting on the bench ties up more capspace. If anybody knows about chroniic injuries to their centers, it should be the Blazers(Bowie) and the Rockets(Yao).

I was never sold on Oden. I am not sold on Demarcus Cousins either. They are too big and too heavy. All that weight increases the stress on the knees and feet. I think Cousins will have constant injury problems by his 2nd year year that will require surgery or for him to miss at least 20 games each seson.

In wasn't skill that landed him that top spot in 2007. It was his physical presence, a true 7'0, he was really good at establishing deep post position inside. Add that to great hands, solid footwork and explosive leaping ability and you have the making of a young Shaq.

But in terms of "skill's" Greg Oden was still very raw...

completely forgot oden was injured against us. crazy how our 50 year old centers both got inured playing each other.

hope oden gets well, i really like portland and i thought he showed improvement in the short time he played last season

Oden wasn't even the best player on that Ohio State team. They had Mike Conley and Daequan Cook too.

At least Darko has the excuse of being stuck behind a veteran frontline and a coach notorious for not using rookies.

    Oden hasn't even...played.

Oden will be more known for his famous wang picture than for the games he played.

That's the thing why I blame the Blazers for messing up. Oden was injured in college. And the Blazers had access to his medical records which show he had knee damage even before the draft started.

Its one thing if Oden was healthy when he was drafted and just became injury prone afterwards. Its another if all the warning signs/red flags are there and the Blazers still stubbornly stuck to Oden. Oden wasn't even the BPA, everybody acknowledged Durant was the better player.

There tons of red flags on him. Besides his knees, he also had a wrist injury that wasn't healing, a bulging disc in his back, a hip problem, and one leg shorter than the other. There were questions by some teams about his knees before the draft.

His agent Duffy was trying to play it off as nothing.

Time to retire to the Brett Farve home for old athletes, but wait, he is not old and he never did anything.

The poor guy is washed up in his early twenties.

I was saying Greg Oden and Demarcus Cousins were too big and heavy.

Shaq is a special case due to his history of health throughout college and his feet are unusually large even for a 7 footer. He has size 23 shoes. For comparison, Yao and Oden are only size 18.

It certainly helps to support 300+lbs much better than size 18 feet.

I can't recall any other 280+lb 7 footers that had Shaq's health. He is an Ox. It seems that most teams drafting 280Lb+ 7fters have dreams of Shaq but end up with Bowie, Curry, and Oden.
