    Career over; he's done.

<s>@</s>jwquick [rquoter]Wow. Oden knee surgery turns into another microfracture. Done for the season. That's two microfractures on the left knee, one microfracture on the right knee. Blazers team president Larry Miller on Oden: "This is not the news we were hoping for Greg or the organization.'' Miller on Oden: "It's hard to put into words the heartbreak for everyone involved.'' Microfracture typically takes 1 year for recovery. In Oden's case, probably more because his history. Probably out for much of 12-13 season. Greg Oden hasn't played in an NBA game since Dec. 5, 2009, when he fractured his left patella while jumping to block an Aaron Brooks shot[/rquoter]

[rquoter]The Portland Trail Blazers have announced that center Greg Oden underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee today. The surgery was performed by Dr. Richard Steadman in Vail, Colo. Oden will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 NBA season.

"Initially, Greg was undergoing a procedure similar to the one he had a couple of weeks ago to have debris cleared from his right knee," said Acting General Manager Chad Buchanan. "However, once the doctors were inside Greg's left knee, they unfortunately found articular surface damage and determined microfracture was necessary."

Oden, who will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, was selected by the Trail Blazers with the first overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. In 82 career games (60 starts), Oden has averaged 9.4 points (57.7% FG), 7.3 rebounds and 1.43 blocks in 22.1 minutes per game.

"This is not the news we were hoping for Greg or the organization," said Trail Blazers President Larry Miller. "It's hard to put into words the heartbreak for everyone involved, but especially for Greg. He's a young man who has experienced a great number of physical challenges in his playing career and today is yet another significant setback for him. We have a lot of empathy for Greg and his family during this difficult time."[/rquoter]

i'm not sure why the team is/was hopeful that he'd recover. This guy would have enough trouble being a weekend warrior, no way can his body handle the NBA.

so I'm assuming since it's his contract year that this is the last we'll see of Oden? I don't think anyone can really take a chance on him from all the surgeries but could see it happening.

Non-guaranteed contract? I could see most teams offering a 15th spot for him.

Geez. I think it's time for him to sign with the Phoenix Suns organization and team doctor specialist. They are the Humpty Dumpty team that might be able to put him back together again.

Hope he retires, that's just too much to put on your body. Hope he does well and succeeds in his life outside of basketball.

wow, I don't think I've witnessed anyone so injury prone. His body just doesn't seem like he will be able to play in the league. He hsould at least look into that German treatment. If anyone here has had surgery, you know how hard recovery is, so this isn't just him collecting a check, its hell of a lot of work.
That said, I've never felt he was as good as hyped. His rookie year they started bill russell comparasions so on, this guy would be a solid defensive big, but offensively he just was uncoordinated. Ofcourse thati s more than serviceable and he could be one of the better starting Centers.
Well, I guess well have to see what he can slavage a year from now

Wasn't last year a contract year too? And the Blazers brought him back anyway. Probably won't make that mistake again.

He's made around $23 million. Hopefully he decided to save most of it when he realized health was going to be an issue.
