I just stopped by Bernie's Burger Bus (no relations) tonight, and I ordered The Detention. Here's the description from their website: Two applewood smoked bacon grill cheeses used as the bun, two signature beef patties topped with Texas cheddar, tipsy onions, and all the fixings It might have been a bit of an overkill, but it was an unbelievable experience. With all the fixins', you would think it would overpower the burger patties. However the burger patties have a wonderful beefy flavor and they were juicy as hell. What really sold the burger was the bacon though. They were thick, crispy and stands up very well to the burger. They are $15 a pop, but worth every penny if you're a burger fanatic like me. Also don't forget to try the chili fries.
I haven't been there in many years, but they used to have the greatest avocado and cheese grilled sandwich. It was stuffed with all kinds of groovy stuff and I got stuffed, you know? Yum!
This just opened, and I've heard the proprieter opened a restaurant in Montrose as well. I will check it out! And for inner loopers, do not miss Melange Creperie! Typically only breakfast/early lunch fare, but unlike anything you've ever had in Houston.
