Yeah, I think people in other countries will not be inclined to throw their shoes at our President. We'll miss that.

That was awesome. I wish he would've actually clocked him in the face, but oh well, the disrespect by itself is enough for me. This is probably little consolation to all the lives that have been destroyed and all those innocent civilians that Bush is responsible for killing.

The person in front of Bush was Maliki the Primeminister of Iraq. If this was a threat having the Primeminister of Iraq getting injured trying to protect Bush wouldn't have been good either. As far as it being just two seconds consider how long it took Hinkley to get off a few shots.

In regard to the reaction time there should be a secret service standing within about 5 feet of the President easily enough distance to react. I remeber there was an incident with Reagan after he left office where he received an award someone got on the stage and smashed the award and tried to approach Reagan, almost instantaneously about 5 Secret Service were on top of Reagan while another 5 were on top of the protestor.

I think it is fine for people to disrespect and protest the President but I think this is a very bad precendent that someone could be in a position to physically threaten the President. Like Bush or not he is still the President and I would rather not have US Presidents in such a vulnerable position.

Consider if Obama was the President and instead of an angry Iraqi it was a white supremacist throwing shoes at Obama would you feel that awesome about it.

No, unless he was responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of people.

But it was not a white supremacist, it was a civilian of a country who probably had some family/friends die because of the idiotic (at best) decisions of our president.

Hypothetically speaking imagine if the U.S. was invaded by another country (more powerful) because they thought the U.S. was getting out of control and was being allowed to do whatever they want and invading countries left and right. So now we have another country in the U.S. attacking us and trying to bring us down so they can rebuild our whole country while the rest of the world just sits back and watches. Our way of life will totally be effected by this war, we would feel so helpless and hate Country X for invading us. Your going to hate the leader of Country X with all your heart, especially if you lost family or friends because of the unnecessary war. Trust me, in your mind throwing a shoe at the leader of Country X is not disrespectful one bit.

Many people in the U.S. don't understand that the U.S. sticks its nose where it does not belong. Why do we have the right to go into other countries and say how they should be living? And if we are going to be the Country who gets involved when there is turmoil, then why do we only do it to the countries that can benefit us back in some way? Why not get involved everywhere else?

I like the disparity between what you see on CNN and non corporate media.

    CNN:

The shoe-thrower -- identified as Muntadhar al-Zaidi, an Iraqi journalist with Egypt-based al-Baghdadia television network -- could be heard yelling in Arabic: "This is a farewell ... you dog!"

While pinned on the ground by security personnel, he screamed: "You killed the Iraqis!"

    Other:

“This is the farewell kiss you dog….this is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq.” “This is the end!”

Do you really not know the answer to this? I'd start researching the Military Industrial Complex, New World Order, Shadow Government, etc. We do not go to war to help countries, we go to make money for certain people, to bankrupt nations while overtaking their natural resources, and to put puppet governments there. Iraq is one of the dirtiest, most despicable, most illegal wars in modern history, it's no surprise people are hurling shoes at our president.

Really? The CNN one just used ellipses to edit out the stuff about widows and orphans. The BBC has it quoted as:

In the middle of the news conference with Mr Maliki, Iraqi television journalist Muntadar al-Zaidi stood up and shouted "this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog," before hurling a shoe at Mr Bush which narrowly missed him.

Showing the soles of shoes to someone is a sign of contempt in Arab culture.

With his second shoe, which the president also managed to dodge, Mr Zaidi said: "This is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq."

Hey if I was Bush and this was the worst coming at me for the decisions made, I'd take both shoes to the face, unless the first one really hurt, then I'd dodge the second shoe. ;)

Understand what? Sacrifices? We live in a selfish time where the well being of 1 life is more important than preserving the livelihood of our country, in which hundreds and thousands have died for so we can set behind our computers in warm and safe houses to condemn everyone else for their downfalls. I don't appreciate your mockery of freedom especially when there have been thousands of US troops that have been killed and the countless of civilian deaths. Go visit the countries like North Korea and maybe you will have a new found respect of the word freedom.

Do you honestly believe we attacked and invaded Iraq to protect our freedom?

Comparing pre-invasion Iraq to North Korea pretty much sums up your level of understanding. They were both run by a dictator so i guess they are the same right. :(

    I'm obviously wasting my time.
