I'm with you...I think they dropped the ball on this one. They will have to put this in their training video from now on, the dude would have had a Chinese star or something, were lucky it was only a pair of shoes.

I'm going to guess and say the Secret Service made certain everyone in the room was unarmed and harmless. This may explain the calmness and slow reaction. What's bad here is the incident will be blown up in Iraq and the shoe-thrower might become a symbolic hero of disgust and anger against the United States.

I've watched the video three times already including once in slow motion. There is no way the Secret Service should've allowed the second throw without protecting the President. As far as it being a shoe would you be so sanguine if it was a camera battery a glass bottle or another hard object that might be in the room? Two shoes are bad enough but this just shows how vulnerable the US President is.

I'm sure they made sure no one had guns, bombs or metal knives and that everyone was known but the problem is that there are many other things there that could've done a lot of damage such as camera batteries or bottles. For that matter with ceramic knives or a piece of glass those don't show up on metal detectors.

I don't fault the Secret Service for missing the first shoe but I think the failure to act to what is clearly a hostile situation. For that matter there was a failure of either or both the US or Iraqi security to screen out someone who was willing to risk his freedom and safety to get close enough to throw shoes.

That's all fine and dandy if YOUR incompetent president kept his incompetence in YOUR country.

However YOUR incompetent president invaded this guys country under false premises. Hence forth his incompetence now affects him just as much, if not more than it does you.

Since he cannot vote i guess he found another way to show his displeasure.

I don't think he meant physical harm. The sole of the shoe is a huge insult in that culture. It was meant as the ultimate insult and not to cause physical harm.

That being said, it shouldn't have been allowed to happen.

We don't live in a vacuum, that guy was expressing his free speech. I have no problem with it, and actually find it funny.

The miscalculation of the war in Iraq can be summed up in this video.

it must be frustrating being a journalist, covering the war, and seeing the death toll of civilians. I think there are more civilians dead than terrorists and troops alone. Just a guess though.

Assaulting a Head of State is not funny.

Sure, I can get a chuckle if the journalist threw cream pies at Bush, but the fact that he got that far is disturbing.

Props to Bush for keeping a sense of humor. Secret Service dropped the ball. They should have been all over that guy after the first shoe. Their job is to take a bullet for the guy, surely they could take a shoe for him.

The shoe thrower clearly hates us for our freedoms, though.

 Rick Ankiel could've thrown a better shoe.

Quick, who's going to be the first person to make a flash game out of this??

Just because he is an american does not mean he is above everything. Maybe since U.S politicians can't be touched by the international court of justice, the common belief is that they can do whatever the hell they want.

Again, the uniter's war has led to many civilian deaths, and all he received was a shoe or two. The joke is on you, the iraqui people jajaajaja. =/

Now I must go to an early screening of that movie, that is based on true events, where some crazy germans try to disrespect hitler by killing him. =/
