No idea on how good Way of the Samurai is going to be fellas. I am hoping beyond hope. Way of the Samurai 1 was one of the most memorable games I have ever played. I am looking forward to more reviews and information this month. They have yet to make the ultimate "Samurai RPG".
For what its worth, in preparation for the new R&C, I went out to gamestop and picked up Tools of Destruction.
Apparently I'm a little late to this party, but I just wanted to let other clutchfans in the know too in case they aren't...I don't know if this is worthy of it's own thread, but there's this thing called the "Entertainment Consumers Association" that's been making some noise in the gaming community (and big news on slickdeals). The main pull of it is because it can get you 10% off all videogames and accessories on Amazon and, as of right now, it has free membership for one year (normally $20) if you enter the promotional code GIMAG. It can also give benefits to other gaming organizations like direct2drive, gamefly, etc. Read up about it on slickdeals: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=229770&t=1553693 I pre-ordered my own copy of 2k10 today for $47.XX because Amazon has it listed $52.99 (ECA gives 10% immediately off of list price). Add on the extra $10 amazon is giving towards future game purchases for pre-ordering 2k10, and you're coming out with 2k10 for about $37... http://www.amazon.com/NBA-2K10-Play..._1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1254645159&sr=8-1
I didn't realize they were still giving away free memberships. Definitely a good deal, and thanks for mentioning it. I don't recall seeing much talk about it here. I've been using it for the past few weeks, and it has already made up for the normal annual subscription cost. I think there was a glitch where you could stack 2-3 of these discounts on top of each other, although I don't know if I'd recommend doing it. If everyone starts getting 30% off, I don't know how much longer Amazon will continue to give discounts to ECA members.
Just played the Brutal Legend demo....voice acting is good (and often very funny) but the gameplay didn't really wow me.
ECA discount will be good for novembers games. Next week, Toys R Us will have their annual buy 2 get 1 free sale. Just in time for Uncharted 2 and 2k10! 10/11-10/17 http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=1585865
Anybody have Demon's Souls? Well...the US version anyway? I went with free shipping from Amazon, so I won't get it for another few days. It seemed to get better reviews that I expected. Sitting at ~90 at Metacritic. Figured there would be more "It is TOO HARD!" reviews. I wonder how SCEA is feeling about passing on this game. Of course, with this also being the same day that NBA 2K10 was released, probably not much interest in it right now on this board. I'd probably play 2K10 first too, but the PC version isn't released until next week IIRC.
i never even heard of this game before but after i read the reviews, it looks like a must buy for the PS3.
i know this belongs in the november thread but.. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/o54QI1OowAw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/o54QI1OowAw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> Modern Warfare 2 > everything
For the crowd that buys the same ol' Madden game every year, sure. For people that actually like playing games, not really
It is so good, you should buy 2-3 copies. Or at least, you should just so that we can get a sequel. We need to avoid a Persona 4 situation. I remember when the game was first shown off at TGS about a year ago. I was somewhat interested, but it seemed like all the impressions said it wasn't very good, so I lost a bit of interest. Happy to see those impressions were wrong.
wrong. this is for the crowd that likes playing games, not watching anime cut scenes. and speaking of sequels. they've released 2 Modern Warfare games before they released Final Fantasy XXXXXIIIIIIIIIXXIXIXIXIXIXIX
Well I'm not that surprised you enjoy recycled old content. But I'm sure eventually I'll give console shooterlol a go again too, let me know how modern warfare 47 is.
I'm not really sure that a JRPG fan should be making comments about recycled gameplay. ;p (for the record, I enjoy both types of games!) That's awesome. I think R&C is an awesome series and I wish more people got to play them. There's actually a sequel to ToD on PSN but as far as I know it doesn't expand the story much.
Modern Warfare will sell more than any of these lame phantasy star and legend of zelda rip offs with 5 hour cut scenes with Speed Racer looking characters. I mean why play those games when you can dust off the Robotech VHS tapes? its the same thing. Modern Warfare has a campaign and a multiplayer portion, which means you can play with other people online and have a game that has very high replay value. This game requires skill and teamwork. >
I wanted to clarify some things earlier in this thread about the Ratchet & Clank series ending. Insomniac Games has said this will wrap up the Future series, which started with Tools of Destruction, but they have not commented about the series continuing on after that. I would be stunned if they dropped it at this point.
What was the JRPG comment in reference to? Demon's Souls? That's not really a JRPG. Well, it is a RPG developed by a Japanese developer, so I guess it is. But it plays more like a WRPG I believe. And it is pretty unique AFAIK. Although depending on where you were going with that point, I'm not sure I even agree with it. Depends on the JRPGs I guess, but recycled gameplay doesn't seem to be much of an issue, especially compared to the yearly sequels he was referencing. For example, each FF changes its gameplay quite a bit (compare FFX through FFXIII...although you could also throw in Versus and FFXIV). The different SMT games are usually pretty different as well (Nocturne vs Persona vs Devil Summoner vs Digital Devil Saga). Persona 4 did recycle a lot from Persona 3, but it did come out about a year later at a budget price (would be nice if these other games did the same). Even then, it probably had more changes than most yearly sequels, and they had to put in 60+ hrs of content in the game. Who cares about FF? We're talking about Demon's Souls in this thread. And that game has practically no cutscenes AFAIK, some pretty innovative online gameplay, and is highly replayable. I'm pretty sure it takes more skill and teamwork than COD as well (certainly more skill). (SMT does too IMO, at least offline. Not all JRPGs are like FF in regards to the amount of skill required to complete the game).
Its recycled because it is the first sequel? It is one of the best online games ever made and they only improved upon what they did last time. if you knew anything about the game, you would know this one has quite a different plot. But you seem to have no idea anyway
RC no, not Demons Souls: I was talking about the genre in general which, much like FPS, can suffer from stale, recycled gameplay features just as easily. When they stand out they are great games, such as the Persona series you mentioned. It just seems a liitle off to accuse, for example, the shooter genre of this when JRPGs have struggled in the same area.
