Easy there cowboy. I did not call him a conspiracy theorist...I said the theory that the Bush Admin. already has Bin Laden in custody is a conspiracy theory. There is a fundamental difference there. Now if you have information about the capture of Bin Laden than you should take it to Marvin Zindler. And if Pres. Bush gives us Bin Laden between now and Nov 2, I will eat my GOP wins in the house, senate and presidential election crow. Until that happens this is just as bad as the numerous conspiracy theories associated with 9/11 (Afghan and Enron Connection, No Jews in the towers, Bush/ Bin Laden breakfast).
I hope the October surprise is ice cream. P.S. : calling something a "conspiracy theory" is often used as a cheap and wimpy way to instantly declare the illegitimacy of an argument. In other words, calling something a "conspiracy theory" neither proves nor disproves anything, it just means "I don't want to (or I can't) debate about it." That being said, I don't know if the Bushies already have OBL locked in the White House basement, and neither do the rest of us. It's very unlikely that they do (I don't think they've pursued OBL with enough vigor to actually catch him, and he might even be dead already), but I certainly wouldn't put it past them to trot him out before the elections if they had the opportunity. It's not an issue of "would they?",because they surely would, it's an issue of "can they?"
The only problem with the theory of already having OBL is what would happen if the media caught wind that it was a set up? Can you imagine the backlash? No, as much as I don't trust this administration, I think even that is not possible.
The October surprise will not be that the Astros lose another playoff series, it will be that the Astros will not make the playoffs at all. Come to think of it, that is no surprise whatsoever.
Perhaps in some cases, but in other cases it's used when the theory is so silly that it's really not worth debating.
That crazy "liberal" media would raise a small fuss and then let it ride. Why should GWB's free ride in the media stop now?
i can't believe i'm even engaging in a political thread without using the name, Smarty Jones...but do you seriously believe that the media gives Bush a free pass?? seriously?? man, i guess it's all about perspective. i think the press is hell-bent on tearing folks down, period.
False Documents Honestly. . . i would not be surprised if the Republicans planted the story . . . . . knowin it would be shown as false and knowing that would help bush Rocket River
No. SF will win tonight and Thursday. The Stros will win Wednesday. Scott Rolen will be back in time for the Cardinals' series at Minute Maid next week. I will be extremely surprised if the Astros win the Wild Card.
I am, and it hurts, but I will be hugely and pleasantly surprised if the Astros win the Wild Card. I just don't think they have the kind of schedule that will give them a decent shot to do it.
Come now, if our guys can't even keep Abu Ghraib under wraps, how could they ever hope to conceal a deal maker like Bin Laden's capture?
Well? There is that 100 or so prisoners that were never identified or made known to the Red Cross. So you never know!
October Surprise -- What will it be? __________________________________ Trader_Jorge and Glynch finally admit "they" are really the same person...
True. But then it becomes a question of what one considers "silly," and what criteria one uses to determine whether something is silly or not-so-silly. For example: It's pretty silly to think missles were launched into the Pentagon on 9/11. It's silly to think that the Bush family is part of some secret coalition to build bases on Mars so they can escape once they destory the planet. But maybe it's not-so-silly to think that Halliburton used their Cheney connection to secure a no-bid contract in Iraq. I don't think that's silly, but maybe you do? Some would react to this assertion by saying, "Hmph, just another whacko leftist conspiracy theory" and consider that a valid reason for relegating the assertion to a non-issue without investigating, while I would say that there is certainly enough situational evidence to consider the possibility of it being true. It's easier to dismiss nebulous positions that don't suit one's own bias. It's also easier to endorse those same positions when they sit comfortably in one's worldview. But, in either case, it may be worth a bit of critical examination before one either dismisses or endorses. There's always the chance that we're completely wrong and that there is a more accurate way to view things, no matter what we believe.
Free pass is a bit of hyperbole but ... Let's consider some "miscues" from out current CiC and his Admin: Starting a pre-emptive war on the flimsiest of evidence. Starting a pre-emptive war is a violation of the UN charter (which the US helped write) punishable in the world court. Self pretection is not a war crime, so it is up to the invader to proof the claims that pre-emption were warranted. The US has missed the bar completely on this one. Our CiC is unconcerned and deflects criticism as "elistist". The Valerie Plame incident. The CiC could force all of his staff to take lie detector tests and ferret out the guilty, but choses not to. The scope of the outing of Plame can not be understated. As well as her overcover status being blown, others will be blown as well, which is self-defeating in our fight for terrorism. Abu Ghraib Prison. This is a disgrace and heads should roll, but our intellectually incurious CiC wants to sweep it under the rug. Now let's consider the softball questions the CiC gets when he stages his infrequent press conferences. Now consider the amount of crap his predecessors took from the press for much lesser offenses. Thus, I see the CiC getting a free ride from the press. I think maybe we are seeing a sea change in the relationship between the press and the president. The Admin can restrict access to the press favoring thos that goes lightly on the president, allowing those that comply to do their job albeit poorly versus those do not play by the Admin's rules to go begging for access.
