Did OWS bring some bipartisan sanity to New York State? http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2011/1206/New-York-to-raise-taxes-on-the-rich.-Is-it-a-blueprint-for-Congress This article details a bipartisan compromise where people make over $2M per year will get a slight increase in their state taxes, while the middle class gets a slight tax cut. They mostly offset, and the state ends up $2B richer to boot. I had to look up the term "bipartisan compromise." It's fancy legalese for sanity, and it turns out even the GOP has to participate for it to work.
Hey bob you read the San Fran Chronicle right? Did you see this ad yesterday? via ThinkProgress The ad outlines the 99 Percent’s solutions to the U.S. deficit, determined nearly a month ago at Occupy Washington. The plan includes raising taxes on the extremely wealthy, reducing the military budget, creating jobs in the public sector, and strengthening and expanding Social Security and Medicare:
the message is spreading Los Angeles City Council Unanimously Votes That Corporations Are Not People By an 11-0 vote, the Los Angeles City Council approved a resolution declaring that corporations are not entitled to the same rights as people, especially in the context of money and politics. The resolution, which needs to be approved by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, is non-binding. Nevertheless, a packed chamber that included many Occupy L.A. members erupted into a standing ovation when the city’s lawmakers showed that they understand the Constitution better than five members of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Thanks for posting that, but no, I don't read no stinking SF Chronicle, "now smaller... and worse than ever!" The Christian Science Monitor is probably the only news outlet I check daily.
Wow, that's awesome. Corporations should be entitled certain rights, but currently they have tons of rights they shouldn't have, and are lacking some that they should have.
We need the death penalty and suspension of charter for bad acting corporations. We need to have a lot more criminal statutes that put corporate execs in prison for bad acting.
To properly troll D&D with your new username and lame-ass schtick, you need to call Obama something racist. But this character sucks though you should create a new username and try again from the beginning.
I like the level of commitment and I don't mind a rebelrowzer. When I was young, I used to think of public opinion as a great mass that could be moved the same distance by a large force at a lower velocity or a small force at a higher velocity. The more radical opinions would be the smaller force but usually delivered with the higher velocity. But now I think they just bounce off and don't really have any net effect on the mass. It's sort of a confused comic though. The Occupy idea is that people have lost direct influence with their government to corporate controlled, profit at any cost politics. We need to reassert democracy, which means allowing people to exercise their first amendment rights, and not be sprayed with pepper spray in a peaceful assembly.
You're spelling it wrong. Bernie Sanders Introduces OCCUPIED Constitutional Amendment To Ban Corporate Money In Politics
via ThinkProgress: Occupy Boston Gets Eviction Notice | After a judge ruled on Tuesday that the act of occupation isn’t protected speech, Boston Mayor Tom Menino and the one-percenters who run the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy moved quickly today to order the eviction of Occupy Boston, 70 days after protesters encamped in Dewey Square next to the Federal Reserve Bank. The protesters, given until midnight to leave, have packed up most of the infrastructure of the occupation — the library, the food and medical tents, and the like, but are planning a dance party for the gathering crowd.

I just wasted 18 minutes of my life looking at that video. These people are even worse than I ever imagined. Just a truly sad bunch of people. I will say a prayer for them.
