I'm not sure I get his rant. Shouldn't people who own half the nation's wealth pay half of the taxes? The amount of money and energy spent to fight a 4% tax raise is astounding.
Rich guy gets it... SIAP, but some really good points here. Of course, wingnuts will immediately say if he is worried about schools, he should make some charitable donations.
I know this is already posted somewhere but it worth posting again; not because we didn't already know the government was giving banks free money to buy treasuries and prop up the worldwide treasury market but at the very end Jon describes how they actually kept the fact secret from the agencies that should have been notified. That pisses me off. <table style='font:11px arial; color:#333; background-color:#f5f5f5' cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' width='512' height='340'><tbody><tr style='background-color:#e5e5e5' valign='middle'><td style='padding:2px 1px 0px 5px;'><a target='_blank' style='color:#333; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com'>The Daily Show With Jon Stewart</a></td><td style='padding:2px 5px 0px 5px; text-align:right; font-weight:bold;'>Mon - Thurs 11p / 10c</td></tr><tr style='height:14px;' valign='middle'><td style='padding:2px 1px 0px 5px;' colspan='2'><a target='_blank' style='color:#333; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-december-1-2011/america-s-next-tarp-model'>America's Next TARP Model</a></td></tr><tr style='height:14px; background-color:#353535' valign='middle'><td colspan='2' style='padding:2px 5px 0px 5px; width:512px; overflow:hidden; text-align:right'><a target='_blank' style='color:#96deff; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/'>www.thedailyshow.com</a></td></tr><tr valign='middle'><td style='padding:0px;' colspan='2'><embed style='display:block' src='http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:item:comedycentral.com:403448' width='512' height='288' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' wmode='window' allowFullscreen='true' flashvars='autoPlay=false' allowscriptaccess='always' allownetworking='all' bgcolor='#000000'></embed></td></tr><tr style='height:18px;' valign='middle'><td style='padding:0px;' colspan='2'><table style='margin:0px; text-align:center' cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' width='100%' height='100%'><tr valign='middle'><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/'>Daily Show Full Episodes</a></td><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.indecisionforever.com/'>Political Humor & Satire Blog</a></td><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.facebook.com/thedailyshow'>The Daily Show on Facebook</a></td></tr></table></td></tr></tbody></table>
And from the irony department -- The Tax-Dodging Owners Of Zuccotti Park Owe The City $139,000 In Back Taxes It turns out that the owners of Zuccotti Park — the historic site of Occupy Wall Street — have been engaged in some of the very same tax-dodging that many of the protesters were enraged about. The “city Finance Department says park owner Brookfield Properties and its parent company, Brookfield US Corp., currently owe the city more than $139,000 in unpaid business taxes from 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.”
It's one of the best news programs on television. My kids grew up watching it, because I thought they needed exposure to the the truth. Didn't hurt that Stewart is hilarious as well as brilliant.

The Times They Are A-Changin' Come gather ’round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You’ll be drenched to the bone If your time to you is worth savin’ Then you better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin’ Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen And keep your eyes wide The chance won’t come again And don’t speak too soon For the wheel’s still in spin And there’s no tellin’ who that it’s namin’ For the loser now will be later to win For the times they are a-changin’ Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call Don’t stand in the doorway Don’t block up the hall For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled There’s a battle outside and it is ragin’ It’ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls For the times they are a-changin’ Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land And don’t criticize What you can’t understand Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command Your old road is rapidly agin’ Please get out of the new one if you can’t lend your hand For the times they are a-changin’ The line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slow one now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is rapidly fadin’ And the first one now will later be last For the times they are a-changin’
Eve Of Destruction The eastern world, it is exploding Violence flarin', bullets loadin' You're old enough to kill, but not for votin' You don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin' And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin' But you tell me Over and over and over again, my friend Ah, you don't believe We're on the eve of destruction. Don't you understand what I'm tryin' to say Can't you feel the fears I'm feelin' today? If the button is pushed, there's no runnin' away There'll be no one to save, with the world in a grave [Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy] And you tell me Over and over and over again, my friend Ah, you don't believe We're on the eve of destruction. Yeah, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin' I'm sitting here just contemplatin' I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation. Handful of senators don't pass legislation And marches alone can't bring integration When human respect is disintegratin' This whole crazy world is just too frustratin' And you tell me Over and over and over again, my friend Ah, you don't believe We're on the eve of destruction. Think of all the hate there is in Red China Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama You may leave here for 4 days in space But when you return, it's the same old place The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend You don't believe We're on the eve Of destruction Mm, no no, you don't believe We're on the eve of destruction.

At the end of the day, Stewart is a comedian and while I think he's the most truthful source of news on popular television at the moment, I think that's probably more a testament to the sad state of news sources than it is to the great show Stewart puts on.
Another great post Esteban! You are the literary genius of the Reply button. Meanwhile on the other side of the globe: Occupy the Kremlin: Russia's Election Lets Loose Public Rage http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,2101569,00.html#ixzz1fknXG1xY The Information Generation knows no boundaries. The lack of transparency in government will melt away everywhere given time. I'm looking at you China.
Maybe the good governor of Wisconsin, Mr. Walker, might want to reacquaint himself with this document.
Thank you Mr Lefty! I am very creative with the Reply button. Merrry Christmas! (if you believe in Christ)
The First Amendment doesn't give you the right to peaceably assemble wherever and whenever you choose, any more than it gives unlimited freedom of speech. Time, place, and manner restrictions have long been recognized. We can't, for example, march right into the pentagon or the oval office. I am not personally a fan of the amount of power the court has allowed in these restrictions, but clearly just holding up the bill of rights is not enough to win this.
Then do something about it. You're a lawyer right? If you think it's wrong, stand up! You are the 99%
If someone brings me a case where they are prevented from speaking freely I am more than willing to represent them and argue that the restrictions should be removed, but it would be a waste of time. The lower courts don't have the power to overrule the established laws and the Supreme Court is not likely to even hear the case. Voting for legislators that will not use the power is a more reasonable route to success.
As a good example of the kind of thing I'm talking about--- yes, it makes sense for an insurance company, which if it failed would've meant massive amounts of airplanes would have been grounded and etc. to sell OTC derivatives that acted as directional bets rather than as proper hedges.
This. You are losing focus each day that you maintain the course IMO...at least with the non-campers...which are the majority of the 99ers.
