It's not available for retail yet and is still supposed to be just for developers to use to make software with. I pre-ordered mine on April 5th. It's definitely still mainly for enthusiast but it's definitely gotten press, especially during Comic-Con and GamesCon when the movie studios did all sorts of stuff with it. Pacific Rim allowed you to ride in a jaeger and fight kaiju and X-Men allowed you to be Professor X using Cerebro to find mutants. Our very own, DaDakota's game Star Citizen, has Oculus Rift support. And I'm pretty sure Facebook's $2 billion purchase counts as some sort of hype.
DK1 or DK2? Not surprised with DK1. DK2 supposed to be much better in that regards but of course I haven't tried either.
“There’s no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. No chance. It’s a $500 subsidized item. They may make a lot of money. But if you actually take a look at the 1.3 billion phones that get sold, I’d prefer to have our software in 60% or 70% or 80% of them, than I would to have 2% or 3%, which is what Apple might get.” Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, 30 April 2007 Of course, Ballmer is still a baller though. I personally am not going to be an early adopter of this product, but an ultimate adopter? Probably. Some of the early videos do point towards it being a really cool entertainment device for your home down the road... nevermind the other uses.... learning, construction, gaming, etc. Also, factor in the millenials and younger will as usual drive technology adoption, and they'll be all over this. Imagine a scenario where they are doing their homework through the VR machine... but also then being able to use the VR machine to game, code, create content, take a guitar lesson, etc. A young teen would be ALL OVER THAT. The thing that puts me off, a lot, is the Facebook acquisition. I can't take any more of Zuck's connected, better world bs... they just want as much info about you as possible... so that your teen can do all of the above, WITH ADS!!
