Having a moron like that pushing an extremist agenda will serve only to push moderates the other way. She'll make thousands of campaign ads for Republicans and force the Democrats they are running against to actively denounce that nonsense over and over again in order to not get lumped in with her. They'll have to deal with that PLUS the gift that keeps on giving in Pelosi who helped the Republicans take the House last time.

This is exactly what is happening and it's what I've tried to warn some people here because I kept bringing up her twitter followers...it increases monumentally every time I check. In June of last year she was at 11k...she's been getting followers like crazy since then and the right wing media has helped her. Not only have they helped her but they have helped the ideas she fights for. While they scoff at them a lot of people agree with them. While she may not be the one to properly present her ideas, someone else may, and the media has given her a huge microphone and stage to continue to push these ideas that she fights for. A lot of right wing extremists talk about the Overton window and their desires to socially change it back to what it was pre-50s... AOC is changing the political Overton Window (in this country) in that she's forcing people to talk about very progressive policies...and I say progressive when really these are just policies that other more Democratic Socialists nations have already pursued and have shown works, but that's another discussion for another thread I suppose. The point being, the right wing media should have dropped the AOC coverage when she won her election and kept the outrage for her bigger moves. Right now, she's just a member of congress and has little power, but they keep shining the spotlight on her and are giving her political clout. I know they think she's "Stupid" and that by doing this they can strawman progressive policies but that's just not how this works but that's what this is in the end, one giant strawman, or I should say Strawwoman because that's all this is. They feel she's going to slip up and say dumb things (and she does) and that people will sour on things like Healthcare for all but that's not going to happen because she's not the only one pushing for policies like that.
I still like AOC as a near-powerless junior Rep. But, as a guy in the utility industry, her green new deal sounds ridiculous. I'm hoping she wises up with experience.
If you are the top .1% of wealth earners and you see the trend of your wealth bracket hording a larger percentage of the nation's wealth over time, I think you should be less concerned with non violent threats like AOC and worry about what will happen 30 years down the line if this wealth gap trend continues. Unfortunately the top .1% is also shifting from people who earned their wealth through intellect and discernible skillset to trust fund babies who can only think a quarterly earning report at a time with zero foresight and motivation to intellectually challenge themselves. We are witnessing a brain drain of the top .1% and it's preventing them from seeing 10 years into the potential future.
At what point does she become more than a sensation? When she runs and wins a Senate seat in NY (not THAT far fetched)? She is barely 29 years old. She has extreme levels of charisma..... like scary levels where she could lead people down into the pits of hell. The big "NO NO" they tell politicians is no pictures eating.... makes for awkwardness........ not her, she pulls it off. Compare the awkwardness........ They tell you not to make extreme gestures..... don't be too unguarded...... Nope, she does it and again pulls it off...... Hilary does it and we all want to cower in the closet and hope she doesn't beat us with a chair or burn "hater" on us with a cigarette.... They say to be serious, avoid situations that don't look professional.......... nope, she pulls it off. Elizabeth Warren opens and drinks a beer and it looks cringe worthy. Never wear a t-shirt....... never wear a sleeveless t-shirt......... nope, she is good. Paul Ryan looks absurd. At the end of the day, a lot of it isn't what AOC....... it is just that she is incredibly confident, comfortable with herself and has unbelievable charisma.
