They should have made their statement in June, when this happened. Waiting until now, with a press conference in front of Compaq, before the Rockets play LA, can only piss Shaq off, which would cause Yao to look bad and the Rockets to lose.

Very few people were aware of it in June since the national, predominantly non-Asian, media apparently were okay with the comments and didn't find them offensive and so did little to no reporting on the matter. Only after a reporter of Asian descent later caught wind of it and raised hell about it (and rightfully so) did it begin to get any airplay.

It's true, Tang called the Los Angeles Times, Sports Illustrated, the Associated Press and other news organizations and offered them information about this story, but they all declined at the time. Only now that the game is on today, that this whole week has been filled with this issue more than ever.

It's also odd that Trent Lott's comments sparked outrage after 2 weeks of media silence.

The media is partly to blame here. Their common mentality in the large area markets are disturbing since they decide what the people gets to know.
