Am I the only guy to admit liking Duran Duran?

I mean, they had some very impressive bass lines, didn't go crazy with guitar (though they had the talent to do so, if they wanted), had creative drum schemes, artistic vocals, and some pleasant (but not overbearing) synth work. Throw in some good melody, harmony, and rhythm and you've got yourself some kick-ass music.

I like both Duran Duran and INXS. Of course, I'm a girl, so it's probably socially acceptable. :)

There's a really big collection called "Just can't get enough: New Wave Hits of the 80's" (Rhino). Someone dropped a bunch of these things at a used CD store in San Antonio and I picked up several. Usually a few things you've heard of and a lot of obscure things (some you might really like... others, who knows), with good liner notes. Good for those of us who are curious about the music but didn't really hear it the first time around. (I was too young during that part of the 80's, and what I did hear was on commercial radio.)

here's a good one by the waterboys:

    I pictured a rainbow
    You held in your hands
    I had flashes
    But you saw then plan
I wondered out in the world for years
While you just stayed in your room
    I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon!
    The whole of the moon!

You were there at the turnstiles
With the wind at your heels
    You stretched for the stars
And you know how it feels
    To reach too high
    Too far
    Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon!

    I was grounded
    While you filled the skies
    I was dumbfounded by truths
    You cut through lies
    I saw the rain-dirty valley
    You saw brigadoon
    I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon!

    I spoke about wings
    You just flew
    I wondered, I guessed, and I tried
    You just knew
    I sighed
    But you swooned
    I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon!
    The whole of the moon!

With a torch in your pocket
And the wind at your heels
    You climbed on the ladder
And you know how it feels
    To reach too high
    Too far
    Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon!
    The whole of the moon!

    Unicorns and cannonballs,
    Palaces and piers,
    Trumpets, towers, and tenemets,
    Wide oceans full of tears,
    Flag, rags, ferry boats,
    Scimitars and scarves,
    Every precious dream and vision
    Underneath the stars

    You climbed on the ladder
With the wind in your sails
    You came like a comet
    Blazing your trail
    Too high
    Too far
    Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon!

"this is the sea" is a great, great album

Man, five pages on '80's music and not one mention of Houston's own Judy's.

Anybody ever heard of a band called Belfegore?

I saw the video for their only American single "All That I Wanted" 2 or 3 times, but I could never find their only release. From what I remember of a song I heard two or three times about 20 years ago, it was really good.

    Ok - here's a little local houston 80s

    The Judys
    The Haskells
    Hershell Berry and the Natives
    Mydolls
    The Dicks
    AK 47
    The Volumatix
    The Explosives
    Fab Motion
    Mulberry Jane
    The Snakes
    Pain Teens

No hits - unless you want to give Guyana Punch or All the Pretty Girls the "hit" status.
