The problem is that people tend to think the world revolves around them a lot more than it actually does. The perception is that a Sebelius pick would be a choice based on the fact that she's a woman, as part of an outreach to the Clinton crowd and to the idea of a historically significant ticket. However, because Sebelius isn't as experienced and doesn't have the level of enthusiasm in the party, they would take it as a personal slap in the face and as Obama putting personality ahead of merit. I don't think it's sexist, but I agree with you that it's shallow. I've noticed that Obama is very comfortable with Sebelius, and that and her "outsider" status would be the top pluses in her column, well ahead of picking her to create a historically significant ticket (well, more than it already is). But people tend to think it's more about them than it actually is, and that's how attitudes like these surface. Is it fair to Obama? Not really. But, given the race, it is something he has to consider.
Of all of the clinically insane things I've heard from her supporters over the last year, this is truly the nuttiest. Worst, it makes Hillary into nothing but an identity candidate, nothing but a woman, when she did so much to prove her bona fides otherwise. I doubt that Sebelius will be the pick, but if she is, and if Hillary supporters revolt because Sebelius is a woman, you have my word on this: I will find at least one Hillary supporter that feels this way and vomit on him or her.
Not boring if you think an idiot with that "deer in the headlights" look is exciting. Impeach Bush/Cheney.
I'm betting the PUMA crowd has some people that feel this way. If Sebelius IS picked, I hope you find one of them for your vomit reaction.
There's no real indication that there are more than 100 in the "PUMA" crowd. But don't you worry. I WILL find one. And I WILL vomit on them.
Hillary supporters would have good reason to STAY pissed off if Sebelius is the pick. For all the years of hard work and sacrifice that Hillary gave to the party to be totally disregarded in favor of a newbie is a total slap in her face. The PUMA's are already livid and this would push them over the edge. You've seen the Gitmo-style dungeon created in Denver for the passionate Hillary supporters, right? These bad boys will be filled to the brim if it's Sebelius. To be honest with you, the VP pick needs to be very careful about deciding to select the position. Being associated with Obama may not be such a desirable thing in a couple of months.... if you know what I mean.
One of my good friends worked for Hillary in Texas and has that attitude -- all I ask is that you please spare her from the vomit. One exception, please.
Even if Obama was picking Sebelius explicitly because she was a woman (and he wouldn't be), there are other qualities KS has over HRC that I failed to mention earlier... - She never said McCain was more clearly qualified to be C-in-C than Obama. - She doesn't have a spiteful ex-president husband - She never ran a kitchen sink campaign against the nominee There are several candidates Obama could pick who are qualified and there are several who would provide different qualities to help him win. But above all Obama needs to be comfortable with the pick. If things go well, he will have to live with it for 8 years. Marc Ambinder made a great point about this here: http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/08/a_word_on_trust_or_why_john_ed.php "He trusts Gov. Sebelius. He trusts Gov. Kaine. He trusts Sen. Jack Reed."
Batman, Hillary could have done much more against Obama, and you know it. To call her respectful campaign against Obama a 'kitchen sink' strategy is outrageous. There are some bombs that Hillary could have dropped, but chose not to. Expect to see them, friend.
Jesus, what a bunch of whiny children some Clinton supporters are. "Wah! Give me what I want or I'll hold my breath 'till turn purple!" "Wah! Let me play or I'll take my ball and go home." Please, take your #@#$ing ball and go home. Part of me honestly hopes they do switch over and elect McCain. Then, they can spend the next 8 years watching what they have done, knowing that all of their petulant, whiny, childish stupidity is the cause. If Clinton supporters are really that childish, they should go support McCain. Maybe they can pout and whine and b**** and moan and destroy the Republican party from within, instead.
Never mind Hillary supporters. The Clintons themselves would declare war on Obama if he sticks it to Hillary by giving the VP slot to another woman.
I've seen no regrets from 2000 Florida Nader voters, though few are lining up behind the steaming pile of privileged suburban guilt that is the Nader Gonzalez ticket.
I think those people actually believed in Nader, so I can understand that. Do you think Clinton supporters threatening to switch parties over the choice of VP actually believe in McCain?
I think the numbers and fervor here are a bit exaggerated, but in any case, NO, I don't think those making the threats really believe in McCain.
Many of my friends regret voting for Nader. I am glad that I did not vote for Nader. I think Nader's huge drop in votes 2004 to 2008 show that many of his voters regretted voting for him.
