And we love it when pro-Obama are so worried their man is going to be exposed and won't open their eyes to see the guy is a phoney.

This elicits a "wow?" Wow. And like you, this guy misses the whole point of the speech, though I suspect it's intentional on his part.

what kills me is people who claim this church is racist by trying to solve the problems of the black community are the same people who oppose black people depending on the government.

"And the notion that somehow it’s cute or amusing, or a useful diversion, I think, is something that all of us have to recognize is just not the case. We all have First Amendment rights. And I am a constitutional lawyer and strongly believe in free speech, but as a culture, we really have to do some soul-searching to think about what kind of toxic information are we feeding our kids,” he concluded."

This is what Obama said about Don Imus and his racist joke. Yet Obama took his kids every sunday to listen to sermons from Rev Wright. Words from Rev Wright that he now deems stupid.

I think some reporters will ask Obama whether he lied about never heard of Wright's hate speech.

I think the best way to deal with this is a light sorry with no excuses.

At the same time they are trying to help the black community they are also throwing a blanket statement on whites portraying them as the enemy. Even Obama says this talk is divisive. Why dont' you?

I just got back in town, and I haven't been able to read the whole thread.

The one thing I will say is that Obama did the right thing in speaking out against what Wright said.

I think it was also honest, and pretty gutsy to say that he wouldn't disown Wright. So much for people saying he'll only say what he thinks people want to hear. This was a case of almost the opposite.

This speech does show that even though he is half-white half-black, he identifies more with his black experience. He was even willing to throw his white grandma under the bus to make a point. I think this will turn some people off.

    Some gems from his sermon:
    --------------------
"It just came to me, in the past few weeks, why so many people are hating Barack Obama," Mr. Wright declared in a sermon some months ago. "He doesn't fit the mould. He ain't white, he ain't rich, and he ain't privileged. Hillary fits the mould. Europeans fit the mould. ... Rich white men fit the mould. Hillary never had a cab whiz past her and not pick her up because her skin was the wrong colour.

"I am sick of negroes who just do not get it. Hillary was not a black boy raised in a single-parent home, Barack was. Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich, white people. Hillary can never know that. Hillary ain't never been called a ******."
    --------------------------

    This is not racist?

Funny how it took Obama 20 years to decide that what Wright was saying was wrong. Prior to the public outcry, Obama had embraced Wright. But he changed his tune quickly no doubt, when he saw the damage being done in the polls. This is a man of conviction? Of principle? Ha! I don't think so. His spiritual advisor of 20 years has instantly been transformed into the 'crazy uncle' whose words he disagrees with. What a hypocritical liar he is. How can his supporters not see that? Unreal. Furthermore, how can anyone not see that Obama patterned his speaking style after Wright? What a total mockery all of this is. It makes Obama look like a total fool.

Wow, that's not how I saw the speech at all. I think he was saying that he actually understands the resentment of some whites who believe they aren't getting a fair shake from affirmative action. He said as much. He went on to say though that it's also wrong for people to pretend like racism isn't still a problem.

I think a good portion of his speech talked about understanding issues particular to only whites.

I don't think he was throwing his white grandmother under the bus, and even said that she was someone who he could disown.

You couldn't be more wrong. If we was only disavowing it to give the public what he wanted, he would have disowned Wright all together. He steadfastly refused to do that. It also didn't take him 20 years to disagree with that as he pointed out in the speech. Perhaps you didn't actually listen to it.

He just recently identified with his black experience. He was raised in Hawaii for goodness sake by his white Grandma. He went to a white college Columbia and Harvard. He just found his black side over the last 2 decades while attending Rev Wrights church. So Obama either A)Believes in the racist, anti-semetic, anti-American, anti-white corporate America, outspoken and deranged Rev. Wright's teachings. B)has no sense of good judgment to allow this Rev to continue to teach his community and his own kids these words of hate. In reality, he either has the same blind hate that Wright has or he just doesn't have good judgments.

Don't you think compare your own grandma to Wright is low?

In my opinion, you can't disown your relatives just because they made hate speech. They are tied to you by blood. In contrast, his relationship with Wright is completely voluntary. I don't see how he could make this comparison, especially when now his grandma is in the heaven and can't say anything about it. Him having even the idea of disowning his grandma is just very low for me.
