So comparing the relationship is any better? He can't denounce his Grandma - I get that. You can't denounce your family even if you wanted to. But you CAN denounce your Pastor and your Church which Obama REFUSES to do so even when a large percentage of Americans according to the polls wants Obama to do just that.

Except the whole point was that his pastor IS part of his family, just as his racist grandmother is. As far as the "large percentage of Americans" wanting Obama to denounce him, you're essentially complaining that he's doing what he feels is right instead of pandering to the polls to score political points.

very well stated, this is the type of politics we need, not hillary clinton's "nafta was a great achievement" in texas, " i have reservations about nafta" in ohio.

obama says what he deems is right

So if the pastor is part of his family then why doesn't he have a talk with him? Make HIM "change" his views. Make Wright understand that his crazy sermons only divide this country. That's all Obama had to do. All he had to say was I'll have a talk with him and get Wright to say I made a mistake. Is that too hard? Instead he stood by him and his church for the last 20 years and let the hate continue. Now it's coming back to haunt him. Except Obama is pandering to the polls somewhat. By not addressing certain issues that many white-Independent voters have, Obama is pandering to his supporters and not the ones he needs to address.

    No doubt she was wrong....

But I don't see the need to drag her in to his mess. Obama created this nightmare by continuing to hang around Rev Wright after he publicly delivered multiple racist sermons. The man is a politician, he should know better.

He's not dividing the country but he's dividing Independents and primarily white voters. Obama is going to survive the Democratic primary and win the nomination but this issue will continue onto the General election and haunt him. Independents are going to remember this.

Try not to look at it in that way...what I took from it was that we all at least suffer from prejudice in some way. He was obviously close to his grandmother and her to him...yet racism or bigotry can creep up anywhere.

Instead of simply saying racism is bad or that people who say racist things are bad, he shows that it's not always "black and white" so to speak.

Love the sinner, not the sin.

That's Obama m.o. alright. Don't look at it for what it is, look at it for what I tell you it is. It's his blood and he just painted her as a racist in front of the nation.

If Obama is who he wants you to think he is... He would have told his reverand friend long ago to get with the times and quit preaching a line of thinking that is truly hurtful to the black community. We need a leader not someone who is going to sit back and let wrong happen without muttering a word unless not doing so makes him look bad.

you seem like a reasonable guy, surely you don't think he's pissing on her grave. if so he would be pissing on every group of people he mention, perspective voters.

    wow.

    [rquoter]Barack, I didn’t do it for this.

Barack, I was a civil rights worker… South Carolina, 1966… 22 yrs old … helping old folks register to vote, teaching kids to read and write, directing Raisin in the Sun…

Barack, I didn’t do it for this.

Barack, I dream of my kindergarten best friend Andy from Walden School, Manhattan, born one day after me, shot dead in Mississippi 1964.

Barack, I idolized Stokley Carmichael and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.

Barack, I lost the full use of my left hand for life in South Carolina.

Barack, I didn’t do it for this.

Barack, I gave hundreds to the Black Panthers for their children’s breakfast program when I was 25 and a young screenwriter in Echo Park, Los Angeles, even though I knew Huey was crazy and was worried my money might have been going for guns, even though I had my own children in the house when the Panthers came over, their jackets bulging.

Barack, I made excuses for the Black Power Movement even though I knew it was turning racist.

Barack, I didn’t do it for this.

    Barack, your speech was bull****.

    Barack, this isn’t about generations.

Barack, this isn’t about the black church.

Barack, this is about a pathological minister whose uncontrolled anger wounds his own people and keeps them down.

Barack, this is about a man who ignored that rage for his own political gain and even now won’t admit a huge mistake and looks for nuance and excuses.

Barack, this about a woman who went on scholarship to Princeton and Harvard and still hates America.
Barack, you say you want Black-Jewish reconciliation but you hung with an anti-Semite.
