Actually you, pretending to have any clue what the church really represents reflects poorly on you.

You haven't been there, you have no idea. For to sit here and lecture people on what Obama has seen during his 20 years at the church is a joke, since you haven't been going there for 20 years.

Why don't you try listening to both blacks and whites who have been at the church regularly, and actually know what the church is about. Just listen to the story, and how the people who actually have attended the church react to people like you, who have no clue what the church is really about.

    Seriously. Listen. It's very interesting.

The Church's mission statement has been posted, and gone over. There is nothing racist about it.

Thanks! This is a heated season for debate and discussion. No doubt about it. :)

Regardless of how one feels about the candidates, this issue is a problem for Senator Obama, deserved or not. I hope that it is replaced by all the other things that need to be addressed in the United States and abroad. I hope he moves past it and that the country is better off having discussed the problems of race that still persist in this country. That's a lot of hope.

We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

Could Hillary attend a church that stated it was to have Caucasian worship service and address the white community? I didn't think so.

Like I said before... You guys are too easy.

I missed it...when did you say you went there?

I read what the church is about and I've heard the pastor curse in church. I don't need to know much more than that.

Like I said before, I meant to say the about us section and it is racist.

You've demonstrated that you haven't had a real knowledge of what Wright's mission was, but instead assumed that you knew, and tried to apply a few divisive statements to 20 years of work, compassion, etc. Before trying to act like an expert on the church, please do some more research on it.

I would enjoy discussing this with someone who was open, and/or knowledgeable about the church and Obama's 20 year history in it. You seem to be pulling most of this out of your ass, or from something you've heard that isn't correct.

[/QUOTE]The difference, is that unlike you, I've listened to more than 5 minutes of words and tried to pretend that I know all about 20 years of words just because of that.

I'm certainly no expert, but if I have to choose to get my information from you or people who attend or have attended the church regularly, and know Wright personally, your opinion will carry far less weight. I was just trying to help you to hear some different opinions from people who know far more about the church than you do.

And you seem incapable of seeing where I have written that I mistakenly wrote the mission section instead of about us.

You also passed over this crap that the church says it believes in.

Some excerpts from the "Black Value System" via the Trinity Church’s website (pdf):

    BLACK VALUE SYSTEM

    Statement of Purpose

We honor Dr. Manford Byrd, our brother in Christ, because of the exemplary manner in which he has thrice withstood the ravage of being denied his earned ascension to the number one position in the Chicago School System…

    The Black Value System

These Black Ethics must be taught and exampled in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect the following concepts:

    Commitment of God

“The God of our weary years” will give us the strength to give up prayerful passivism and become Black Christian Activist, soldiers for Black freedom and the dignity of all humankind…

    Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect

To accomplish anything worthwhile requires self-discipline. We must be a community of self-disciplined persons, if we are to actualize and utilize our own human resources instead of perpetually submitting to exploitation by others. Self discipline coupled with a respect for self, will enable each of us to be an instrument of Black Progress, and a model for Black Youth.

Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness”

Classic methodology on control of captives teaches that captors must keep the captive ignorant educationally, but trained sufficiently well to serve the system. Also, the captors must be able to identify the “talented tenth” of those subjugated, especially those who show promise of providing the kind of leadership that might threaten the captor’s control.

Those so identified as separated from the rest of the people by:

Killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another.

Placing them in concentration camps, and/or structuring an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons.

Seducing them into a socioeconomic class system which while training them to earn more dollars, hypnotizes them into believing they are better than others and teaches them to think in terms of “we” and “they” instead of “us”…

And yours is like an impacted anus.

Could she attend that a church like I spoke of? Yes or no. The answer is yes...if she wanted to get crucified.

Spitzer also did a lot of good things. But he is goner now. He paid the price. I think most people would still think he is overall a good person.

Similarly, Wright said some hateful things. He needs to pay for this. At least thru an apology. But he didn't, so people will keep bringing up the issue.

That's just how the world works. It seems fair to me.

HRC could attend a church with TUCC's mission statement, no?

There are many churches who serve a minority community. That is their ministry. Of course, you probably see each and every one of them as dens of racism.

Don Imus did some good things too. He then said something bad and apologized and Obama wanted his ass gone. Now that shoe's on Wright's foot, Obama is all about understanding what people have gone through to make them harbor racist feelings. It's funny that Obama wasn't open to explaining what could have made Imus say stupid racial comments.

Obama can pick and choose how he wants to address race just like all of us do. He just didn't need to take the holier than thou route claiming he had the ability to unite the people when it's clear he's made very little effort to to just that.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say if the USA apologized to Wright wrt the segregation and other form of racism that he has gone through, Wright might apologize for what he said.
