He wasn't about to get fired. He wasn't going to insult someone's mom. The preacher even told Obama it wasn't a good idea to go to his radical church. All Obama had to do was leave at that point.

Started posting in Jan 2002.. I was reading for about six months before that. What difference does that make?

Mission Statement: What Trinity Is About

Trinity United Church of Christ has been called by God to be a congregation that is not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and that does not apologize for its African roots! As a congregation of baptized believers, we are called to be agents of liberation not only for the oppressed, but for all of God’s family. We, as a church family, acknowledge, that we will, building on this affirmation of "who we are" and "whose we are," call men, women, boys and girls to the liberating love of Jesus Christ, inviting them to become a part of the church universal, responding to Jesus’ command that we go into all the world and make disciples!

We are called out to be "a chosen people" that pays no attention to socio-economic or educational backgrounds. We are made up of the highly educated and the uneducated. Our congregation is a combination of the haves and the have-nots; the economically disadvantaged, the under-class, the unemployed and the employable.

The fortunate who are among us combine forces with the less fortunate to become agents of change for God who is not pleased with America’s economic mal-distribution!

W.E.B. DuBois indicated that the problem in the 20th century was going to be the problem of the color line. He was absolutely correct. Our job as servants of God is to address that problem and eradicate it in the name of Him who came for the whole world by calling all men, women, boys and girls to Christ.

I fail to see the "God Damn America" plank in the mission plank.

Because America is just plain old America. We all play a part in it.

I never said that. It was someone else. But again, why bring race in to it?

He needs to stop portraying whites as villians.

I've answered that, I'm done with it. I won't respond again to that or any other what is racist questions from you.

I've been given grief for liking Hillary Clinton as well as Barack Obama. I've made some critical comments about him (and her). It would seem you missed that, or you wouldn't have accused me of being one of his "sheep," which was the implication of your remark. In this case, I don't think he's done anything wrong, unless being courageous about the subject of race, something I suspect he knows a little about, is wrong. I don't think it is. Neither is putting up with the odd comments of someone you respect because the totality of the person's good qualities surpasses those odd comments.

Frankly, you don't come across as someone who has much experience, first hand, with racism, either as the target or as someone seeing it in practice. If I am wrong about that, my apologies.

You told me to go read Trinity United Church of Christ's Mission Statement, where I would read all sort of inherent evil, which turned out not to be there.

Ya know, it is kinda like you have not even read that mission statement. You know what I mean?

that doesn't make it racist, it was rhetoric to make a point, if i said the nba was black would it be racist even though there are white players

again, he was making a point, and that was almost 100% true

he's not portraying white people as villians, he's portraying black people as victims of a flawed system

    no you haven't

I command thee to stay blissfully ignorant.

BTW do you roll a 12 sided die to determine your opinion?

    Let me get this straight.

For some people here, nothing short of complete and utter disownment of this pastor and the church will suffice?

Because of some offensive statements, Obama should forever dissociate himself from a person and a community? Merely rejecting the statements and proclaiming them "wrong" is insufficient?

Nothing else said or done by the pastor or church merits exemption from the above "rules"?

If that is the case, I am awestruck at the stupidity and hypocrisy.

I apologize for not doing more research on you before I commented. I made a false assumption that you were Obama only fan. If left with the choice of Clinton or Obama, I'd vote for Hillary over Obama but only because she is a supporter of something that is near and dear to my heart.

It's not putting up with odd comments that Obama is doing that is bothering me it is putting up with spreading the hate message in front of 10K people every Sunday. The message that Wright spreads is one of the big reasons there is racial division today. If Obama can't get his friend to come to his senses who the hell can he convince?

I grew up near downtown Atlanta during the sixties. I saw plenty. Plenty going both directions. I have bi-racial nephews and nieces and I see it today too.. Again from both directions.

    http://www.tucc.org/about.htm

We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:

    1. A congregation committed to ADORATION.
    2. A congregation preaching SALVATION.
    3. A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION.
    4. A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.
    5. A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION.
    6. A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION.
    7. A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA.
    8. A congregation committed to LIBERATION.
    9. A congregation committed to RESTORATION.
    10. A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.

Nothing radical here. Methinks perchance you may be spouting the sh** of the bull.

This issue is murdering Obama. It's murdering him. It totally invalidates his entire campaign, which is based on a faux premise of race-blind cultural transcendency and good judgment. It cuts to the core of both of those issues and slices them right open. The fact that Obama chose to associate with and appoint a racist, America-hating bigot to his inner circle of advisors and the man who is his spiritual leader is beyond the pale. Jeremiah Wright is Obama's Willie Horton. He is getting creamed in the polls. The superdelegates will have a very tough decision to make if and when Obama's candidacy is in shambles come convention time. It's the horror story of the democratic party right now. It's a total nightmare for the libs. You just simply cannot win the Presidency without winning independents and whites in the battleground states. And this issue destroys Obama with those groups. It destroys him.

Schadenfreude? Yes, I love it! Obama is on the brink here. The walls are closing in.

Keep repeating it and maybe it will come true. The surge is working. Iraq has WMDs. The economy is strong. Barrack Hussein Obama is a mixed-race self-hating n-word-loving racist Muslim/Christian extremist who eats babies and will blow your Bear Sterns-financed house down at 3am.
