I disagree. His continued relationship with his pastor is merely a premise in his overall argument that America needs to move forward from the race-based political stalemate that has existed since the civil rights movement. He argues that his pastor's sentiments are outdated, comparing it to his grandmother's sentiments. They are both special people to him, but people who have beliefs that he disagrees with.

wow, this comment really shows that you just don't get it. The difference is that McCain (remember, Bush isn't running for re-election...) doesn't have a racist, bigoted, America-hating pastor as his closest spiritual advisor. The fact that Obama does is why this is a story in the first place! And it's not about race -- it's about judgment. But it is the height of hilarity that the race victimization card is the auto-default response by Obama. Just pathetic.

It depends on how close are they to the pastor and also what is being said. Why don't you give me examples?

Well, the part about his grandma is something new. Wright's sermons are not something new. So the latter is already under the bus but the former is just being thrown under the bus.

Good luck distancing McCain from Bush and the Neocons in November. For every Rev. Wright or Jesse Jackson among the democrats, there's a Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and Mike Huckabee on the other side.

How close is Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson to Bush and McCain? Is it anywhere comparable to Wright and Obama?

It was posted by Rimrocker in the Wright thread.

McCain's spiritual adviser Rod Parsley- http://www.motherjones.com/washington_dispatch/2008/03/john-mccain-rod-parsley-spiritual-guide.html
GOP's courtship of right wing Evangelicals- http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/03/17/wright/index.html

That's odd because Barack's recent statements have shifted him closer to Wright, the person, despite the controversy...

And what do you think are the implications for his grandmother of this bus throwing? That she's a vile racist or bigot?

I'm curious if you've read Obama's speech in its entirety. Wright's selected sermons have been shocking to many Americans, but similar sounding statements likely wouldn't shock attendees of other Black churches. Barack exposed the black/white racial divide for what it is. This may be a genuine opportunity for Americans to address each others grievances.

How does Obama transcend race or is the one qualified to unite this country if he can't even change his pastor or his own church's bigoted views?

If you couple the mission of that particular church with the fact that it's pastor calls our country the United States of White America. It's not hard to figure out, is it?

If Obama is the great uniter, then why hasn't he even made an attempt to stop the spread of ignorance that leads to racial divide in his own church. Obama either doesn't have the balls to stand up to his circle of friends or he wants his kids to believe that crap, that's why.

If Obama is calling the pastor's comments stupid, why in the hell did he take his kids to listen to that crap week after week?

Your lack of comprehension is ridiculous....

Read what I bolded from Obama's words and tell me that a reverand telling his congregation that the United States of White America (that's what the rev has frequently called this country) invented AIDS to wipe out black people is not toxic.

angrily claiming all whites are rich and privileged and degrading them in his sermons is plain for anybody to see

yeah, calling someone rich and privilaged is racist, he isn't calling all white people rich, he's talking about the stereotype of candidates for president

Barack Hussein Obama Senior, a graduate student from Kenya. Both Dunhams were upset when their daughter Ann married Barack Obama Senior, particularly after receiving a long, angry letter from the graduate student's father in Kenya who "didn't want the Obama blood sullied by a white woman."

It seems Obama forgot to mention that his grandfather on his fathers side was a racist.

    Was your grandfather?

Mine was about 2 generations removed from Ireland. He was absolutely prejudiced...a product of his times. I loved him dearly...he was never anything but great to me. But his views on people of different races was not something I'd be proud of.

That has zero effect today on how I view other human beings. That has zero effect today on my ability to get my work done effectively for my clients.
