You mean something disrespectful like a bunch of Dems booing the President during the State of the Union Address? http://www.realclearpolitics.com/vi...rats_boo_bush_at_2005_state_of_the_union.html No...could never happen.
No, I don't mean that at all. Booing and Yeaing are acceptable practices for Presidential addresses to Congress. (I will remind you that Repubs booed Clinton often.) However, walking out in the middle of a speech or calling the President a liar is not normal or accepted behavior.
I don't condone the childish behavior of either party. But I can't say that I'd rather have someone boo the president as opposed to walking out on the speech...just a preference I guess. And if calling the President a liar wasn't acceptable, we need to take a look at some of those folks who have said similar things in the past...starting with our current Senate Majority Leader.
It wasn't acceptable for two reasons: 1. The venue of a Joint Address to Congress in the House Chamber. 2. The heckler was wrong on the merits. Again, just think what your response would have been had this been a Dem yelling at W... I doubt you'd be looking for examples that could help rationalize the outburst. Man up and admit your guy made a stupid move.
I never said it was a good move, it was childish. Similar things have happened in the past, and this and those other instances shouldn't have occurred, regardless of the circumstances. Whats wrong for one is wrong for the other. As far as your hypo goes...I expect my 5 year old cousin to show better decorum than I expect from a politician. I didn't get in a "hissy fit" when people were booing Bush and calling him a loser, so I imagine if the same had happened to Bush...I wouldn't be overly concerned, but thats just me.
Where is the rulebook?...Something out of nothing. We should be talking about Obama's goal and how to help him achieve his goals, er...no sorry Dept. of Education flashback, we should be analyzing the health plan and how it may benefit certain people (such as myself) with better focus...
To anybody who may be wondering if calling somebody a liar is a big deal...Clayton Williams would have been Governor of Texas if he had not called Ann Richards a liar.
No... the big deal is getting things done, that is what the American people want. Put up or shut up. Demonstrate and clarify and communicate
With respect to where the savings are going to come from, here again is the graph of the health care expenditures in OECD countries in 2006. The 2009 comparison is here and the gap to the second country is even bigger, a full 5% of GDP, which translates into about $700 billion per year. The difference between the US and the OECD average is about 7%, or about $1 trillion per year. Out of this only $90 billion in savings has to be realized to pay for the proposed health care plan. http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/46/2/38980580.pdf
There was booing last night and it's rarely mentioned. There was booing of Clinton. Nobody is talking about the booing. If you are going to point to Dems booing Bush, then it needs to be compared to the Repubs booing last night which again, is barely talked about. It's the yelling out at the President that is the focus.
Booing a State of the Union address is like throwing back the other team's home run ball...it is tradition.
I'm so excited about Obama getting the booing reform finally accomplished. That and Afghanistan will be the hallmarks of his presidency...
who's complaining about booing? and you want to compare Obama's Afghanistan to Bush's Iraq now? you know Bush messed up both Afghanistan and Iraq right?
If South Carolina is worth anything beyond pooping on (dicey subject), then he will be overwhelmed out of office in the next election. Still can't admit he lied, so he spews more lies, as if severe rationing isn't happening right now, in his state, and in his district.
South Carolinians have a long history of being jackasses in the House and Senate. And back then as now, there were plenty of fools who cheered on the jackasses as well.
yep he caned a fellow Senator unarmed and sitting on his desk to a pulp because he didn't want to give up his slaves and when someone actually challenged him to a duel he went poof
No one, but we are talking about booing, we are talking about yelling, and O...not so much about Health care reform specifics. The comparison is we are wasting money under both Presidents, Obama may just be better than Bush at that...But I'm concerned about your kids and their future...
again who booed, yelled, and called O a liar when he was actually talking about Health care? where were you 8 years ago?
