The who accusation of not having bipartisanship is hilarious. As Major pointed out Barack is seen as being bi-partisan but it's the GOP that looks like they aren't. 2 Republican Senators in bi-partisan meetings with Democrats fought to have amendments put into the bill, and got their way. Then they voted against the bill. It was refreshing for Obama to lay clear cut ways on which he could be evaluated regarding this stimulus. After all the years in Iraq Bush never once did that. If he ever came close he would then move the goal post later. What a total change from the slop we've had the past 8 years. I'm amazed that some people in here had difficulty watching the talk on how to get out of the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression, because Obama's head went side to side, instead of straight forward. I'm glad to see that some folks are so focused on the issues. What a joke.
can't argue with that although Bush would've been much higher on my like list if he suddenly decided to pull a Joe Pesci. "WHAT AM I, A CLOWN??! do i amuse you?"
yes, and this is what america wants, they WANT GOVERNMENT, the repbulican message is dead, and its hilarious to see the last of the mohicans try to sell it.
lol did you watch the speech? He sounded like he was on the campaign trail for the amount of times he railed on the republicans. How many times can he say that he wasn't going to listen to the Republicans' messages because they have failed over the past 8 years? How many times did he have to keep telling people that he inherited this crisis (meaning it wasn't his fault)? How many times has he told the American public "remember, I won the election!" he's just a partisan hack like the rest of Washington.
This is just part of it. But he's one of the guys who even admits he played a part in getting us here. http://money.cnn.com/2008/09/14/news/economy/greenspan/index.htm This was also a great article on it from the Wall Street Journal http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122169431617549947.html I'm surprised you aren't seeing it, if not directly at least indirectly. It started off with banks and home mortgages but has spread out, and is continuing to spread out. No matter what unemployment numbers you want to look at, they have increased at an alarming rate. Businesses are laying off people, other businesses aren't hiring. Budgets are being cut, benefits for people are being dropped by companies, people are saving more out of fear, which then hurts tourism, hotel businesses, restaurants etc. In CA schools can't afford their budgets to educate the children. The thing is that a stimulus could help with much of it. Provide jobs which provides spending, which helps people hire more, which helps more investments etc. It's only getting worse right now too.
Not as many times as I heard him say he was willing to listen to ideas from people on both sides of the aisle. It is true that he inherited the situation, and it is true that GOP ideas on economy helped bring that situation about. He was pointing out that it's silly to blame him because of some of the obstruction and crazy talk going on.
LOL, 9-11 happened on Bush's watch, wingnuts, clinton is responsible. that's why the politics of fear comparison fails. bush, wmds didn't exist. this financial crisis is real, and his point for mentioning it is that the republicans are saying this is a chance to get all the "liberal dream programs" through. and obama's point is that he didn't come into the presidency expecting to be in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression so he could push a liberal agenda. he's dealing with it because he has to.
probably the Obama's weakest part of the speech was when he tried to laugh off the question about Joe Biden's comment that there was a 30% chance the stimulus wouldn't work. Joe Biden's mouth has got him in trouble in the past, and it was embarrassing for Obama trying to dodge the question last night
love obama, but why did he have to interrupt how I met your mother. =( not cool!! and they didn't even re-broadcast it.
hey uhh, did you see the umm part when uhh people asked why umm Obama is not a uhh good speaker? Cause I just answered a question genius.
how long has the economy been in recession? how long have the democrats controlled congress? correlation or causation?
name one president who answered questions off the cuff like they were giving a good speech, any? you do realize that some of bush's press conference were uh scripted

You are correct that correlation doesn't equal causation. In this case it's extremely silly. It would be like a bill passed immediately had mass effect. The opposite would be that if the stimulus bill passed on Weds. on Thus. all of a sudden there would be 4 million new jobs. It's also silly because the nation was headed by a Republican with a Republican as the treasury secretary. Now, I will definitely say that Democrats do deserve some of the blame, but again that's why Obama saying that he inherited the mess is in itself bi-partsan. He did inherit it from both both parites.
