Genuine question, not trying to be condescending: were the uninsured poor and "pre-conditioned" not already hurting the middle class?

That's what I've never understood about the healthcare "market": these people will, inevitably, enter the system, whether they can pay or not. Doctors are sworn to treat them. Their inability to pay was economically hurting those of us who could, as we eventually shouldered the cost in our own plans. So, if you argue that they shouldn't be forced to buy insurance under Obamacare, and are opposed to single payer, what is the solution?

Depends on where you slice Veteran Benefits and Healthcare, nuclear arsenal upkeep and the coast guard which aren't included in the DoD tally.

America's $1 Trillion National Security Budget

Then there's spending that's not on the "official budget" such as the 4.4 trillion dollars and counting price tag for the last two wars.

To add to this, I think if you just look at cost, medicare-for-all or a single payer with medicare payment makes a lot of sense. The costs of multiple systems, administration and overhead is staggering to said the least.

Humana pulling out of Texas now too. Or at least thinking very hard about it. They've cancelled off exchange sales for the rest of the year while they reconsider their market position and are strongly considering pulling all plans (which means cancelling existing contracts) next year.

Let me know know if any you need help lol.

I still see BCBS PPO policies listed.

We will have a single payer system sooner or later. Hopefully sooner.

So basically the news is if you live in a major county in the state of Texas you are going to lose your plan in January unless you have one of the cheap, discount network plans already.

United has officially decided to end their Choice plans in all but the rural counties throughout Texas, meaning the last of the major providers how now bowed out of offering strong network plans. Your options for 2016 are going to be a very small BCBS HMO network, the Humana HMO network and the United Compass gated network which might be the worst of the bunch.

Access to care in 2016 for people who don't have insurance through a job will be terrible. The major hospitals will be out of network on almost all of these plans, most well regarded doctors will be out of network on all of these plans, etc. Heck, the Blue Cross HMO won't let you use any hospital in the greater Houston area lol!

    Terrible news.

    Thanks for providing these updates.

Do you think the situation would be different if Texas had accepted the federal funding to expand Medicaid? Is that unrelated?

That's crazy. How many folks are we talking about here? Why isn't this getting more coverage?

It certainly would have helped, but probably not enough to avoid this change.

I don't know who you use for a broker, but please, PLEASE, be careful about selecting the BCBS HMO before doing your research. The individual HMO they offer currently has the following "major" hospitals: St. Lukes, St. Joseph's and The Woman's Hospital of Texas.

I don't know the exact coverage numbers right now, but it's a lot. It's almost 400k just from BCBS alone.
