And I will prevent further ones from being born by not giving out handouts. I will look into the eyes of that stupid b**** in the video posted above and tell hell to stop having children.
I'm choosing to believe this is just schtick and you don't really feel this way. Because if it isn't and this is how you really feel, then something has happened to you that's changed you pretty radically.
I applaud your actions and your desire for these kids to be shown another way. Give BHU a talk show like Oprah has in order to show them another way. Having the presidency just to show poor kids "another way" seems to be waaaaaaay over the top
But what if a President made it a priority to show a generation of "poor kids" another way. What if his Presidency gave a lost generation hope -- if his voice saying "you can" spoke louder then the voices saying "give up". What if his message sent 100's or 1000's of people into the cities to try to break the cycle. What if more people were inspired to put themselves in places to supplement the raising of kids from poorly equiped or apathetic parents. It could start a revolution that changes our country. Way over the top? I think not.
So you think people are having kids to get handouts, despite the fact that they have to spend even more money to take care of the kid? Sure you will. How many times have you done this in your life?
LOL you're living in a dream world. Come back to earth. With everything else going on in America, BHU couldn't afford to spend the time needed to focus on something like this. You people are longing for MLK, not a president
This is one of those things that political people are afraid to say, but what the heck. There are more important things in this country and in this world than inspiring the impoverished. I wouldn't vote for a candidate based solely on what he'll do for the poor anymore than I would one based on what he'd do for the rich, the Christians, the blacks, the Muslims, the illegals, the legals, the Texans, the Indians, etc.
Admirable goals and I fully believe Obama is incredibly inspiring and if he is elected President that will be huge symbolically but other than that how exactly will all of that translate into breaking the cycle of poverty? Will Obama being president decrease drug use, reduce crime, cause people to study harder and save more money? This is my main frustration with Obama and his supporters. Support for Obama often seems messianic in nature to the point that the mere presence of Obama means things will change. Perhaps I am just cynical but I don't believe that a charisma, oratory and a great personal story will suddenly cause things to change. As I've said before, and this will likely get Deckard's gander up again, that looking at the President Obama is most compared to, JFK, JFK got very little accomplished in in office and barely skirted disaster on a few situations. In the end it did take a very cagey politician in LBJ to actually enact JFK's plan. I'm not going to discount symbolism but in deciding who I want to be the next president I would like something more than symbolism.
On the flipside, what makes you think Hillary would be the effective LBJ-type? She completely failed in her attempt at health care while First Lady, and she has produced no legislation of note in 8 years in the Senate. It seems the Hillary has had little legislative success nor much ability to inspire. What good does that combo do? She's supposed to be this great experienced master of management - but looking at the two campaigns, hers is the one that's been disorganized and changes tactics every few days. Hers is the one that constantly seems to be making strategic errors. Meanwhile, his has organized far more effectively and been run far more efficiently. Going up against a juggernaut political team with tons of infrastructure and built in support from the 1990's, the rookie with no experience starting from scratch has managed to get close to break-even. What exactly does that say about Clinton's ability to accomplish things?
I believe that giving people hope is the best thing a president can do. Because of the balance of power the President is actually quit limited in what he can force through. But if people are hopeful and can believe in their dreams some people may choose to stay off drugs, stay clean and study harder. Others may buy into the message and try to make a difference in their communities. I think things get better when ordinary people decide to make a difference -- but leadership can provide the vision that individuals can make a difference. Call me delusional -- call me a dreamer -- I don't care.
Agreed re: MEOWGI. What happened to you, dude? Your posts have become hateful and compassionless. You were never like this before.
I agree with this, to me the president is a mostly symbolic position. Foreign relations are also a big part of the position, and I'd rather have somebody that has some charisma and is willing to work with people for the greater good filling that role. I think Obama is a lot more likely to be that person than any of the other candidates. Obama represents change and it's obvious from threads like this that those against him fear change and can only make their points through hate and anger. Nobody wants to talk about why other candidates are better, just why Obama is bad, and they usually use misinformation to accomplish their goals. To me that says a lot about both Obama and his detractors.
Change? This is so stupid. It's a freaking corporate slogan. Republican to Democrat. Wow, that would just be nutty. I can't wait to run naked on the beach holding hands with my fellow brothers if Obama is president. World peace is around the corner. Yippee! Again, yall just want a feel good motivational speaker. At least you admit it.
lol wut? In all seriousness MEOWGI, your posts have become comical. You're against giving handouts to people, who despite a few bad apples, may actually need them whilst you do support giving handouts to a government run agency that despite a few pretty pictures from Hubble, has at least never given most people a tangible benefit in their lives (save the posters of other galaxies, of course)? It seems as though your gripe with Obama's lack of support of NASA, however legitimate it may be as it is your job, has spread to encompass some feelings you have about people worse off than yourself. Oh, well. Thanks for making the D&D a never ending adventure.
The willingness to ignore what comes out of BHU's mouth is astounding. Are you even paying attention?? BHU wants to ban all imports of toys from one of our largest and most important trading partners, China. That is ATROCIOUS for foreign relations. The man is clueless. If you care about foreign relations, hell, the Clinton name ain't a bad one to use. BHU is clueless in this area.
